Nearly finished fitting my new front axle today.
I should have started earlier in the morning as that way I would have been completely finished by tea-time but I had the old one off in a couple of hours and by the time I packed up at 4PM the new one was in place with radius-arms connected and new springs, turrets etc fitted.
Connect steering, panhard rod & new SS flexi-hoses tomorrow morning, bleed through, fill with lubricants and a test-drive should be underway by elevenses.
Moving a fully dressed front axle single-handed out of the garage and under the vehicle was a bit of a pain but I used my trolley-jack c/w cross-beam adaptor and managed ok, I attached a rope to the nose of the diff to stop it trying to roll off. Anyone who has tried to lift a front axle will bear out just how heavy they are so I can recommend this method if you are working single-handed like me.
Three pairs of axle stands also came in very handy. One pair to support the LR and another pair to support each of the two axles, don't want them rolling around on the floor and being off the ground it is easy to get the jack underneath when they need moving.
Nothing wrong with the old axle but a NOS TD5 item c/w calipers etc seemed too good a bargain to miss. Meant replacing the radius-arms as well (mine were the narrow type) but with a new set of bushes in place should see me set up for a while.
Old axle will need to find a good home. Teflon swivels are excellent plus I had only recently replaced the (vented) discs & pads. Radius arms were brand-new (c/w bushes) earlier this year so will list the whole lot in the FS section very soon.
