Hello Chaps/Ladies

After 5 years of owning a VW van for work purposes I have finally managed to get myself another Land Rover.
Only yesterday I swapped my Van for a 110 Crew Cab Defender Td5 XS.
I love it!

My problem though is this, fitted on the front is a Warn XD 9000. I tried to operate it last night just to see if it works and it won't free spool or spool out?
When I use the remote it just clicks?

Any ideas what could be wrong?

All help and advice will be greatly appreciated.

Is it an ex-commercial? If so, it probably had a winch fitted "for safety reasons" by the company who owned it, but, the winch has never been used or maintained.

Clicking could be a failing solenoid, poor cabling not providing enough current for the motor or one of many other things, it's very hard to know without seeing it.

Where are you located? Someone local maybe able to help you out?

It could be just the gearbox (free spool part) is all ceased and it needs a strip down and good lubricating.

k)
n. 1. Any of various heavy motor vehicles designed for carrying or pulling loads.
2. A hand truck.
3. A wheeled platform, sometimes equipped with a motor, for conveying loads in a warehouse or freight yard.
4. One of the swiveling frames of wheels under each end of a railroad car or trolley car.
5. A set of bookshelves mounted on four wheels or casters, used in libraries.
6. Nautical A small piece of wood placed at the top of a mast or flagpole, usually having holes through which halyards can be passed.
7. Chiefly British A railroad freight car without a top.

Think no.1 covers it ;):D

Haha I've been lurking around this site for a bit and I knew the word "Truck" would raise a few eyebrows!

Bump: It was fitted by Land Rover, I think my "truck" is a sort of Tomb Raider without the light bar fake roll bar thing. It seems to be a very similar spec.
So with that in mind I don't think the winch has had a great deal of use more for aesthetic purposes.

I live in Pinner which is in between Harrow / Watford.

Its broken, and un-fixable.

You should sell it to me for a mars bar and 2 penny washers and then buy yourself a new one. :D

In all seriousness, what bump said. Check your solenoid and see if its functioning. Then try your motor. A good strip down will show you if its been used or not and should reveal any issues, post pictures for anything your not sure of. (Oh and thats your motor not your kegs, just so were clear) no one needs to see that! :D ;)

OK, first rule of landie ownership dictates much use of a hammer.

when the solinoid clicks whack the solid parts of the non working winch,
it just may wake it up enough to start working.

coz it aint working now is it..;)

but then your hoover isnt a hoover either but many people still call it that....

actually, a hoover is always a hoover, but a vacuum cleaner isn't necessarily a hoover...

a tannoy is always a public address system, but a public address system is not always a tannoy

and so on.

Someone once called me a pedantist, I told him the correct term is a pedant which kind of proved his point...

Having owned 5 Land Rovers prior to this one I already considered "The Fixing Hammer" however as it won't free spool I was reluctant to do so. I also considered attaching the cable to something solid and reversing to "free it up" but as winches are new to me I wasn't sure if that would be a good idea. If I had the time I would love to learn how to strip down and service said winch myself, however I'm as busy as fook fitting signs so if there is an easy way or someone I can pay then I'm in!
