One for wammers really

yesterday I fitted a new fip and followed the timing as RAVE explains

I now have my battery on charge and will go for an attempt at starting soon, but as the pump is from another car do I need to use my nanocam to sync it?

Regards the timing, I put the cam lobe to vertical, fitted the dial gauge the set it to zero at the lowest point, found TDC then adjusted the pump to 0.09

rotate the engine and check again, once the pump reaches the lowest point I zero the gauge but then it remains on zero when I advance to TDC? Shouldn't it now be on 0.09? I've tried this 3 times and always stays the same?

Save my sanity!

No need to sync it, as long as it is from a Range Rover originally or if from another marque, you have reused the electrical bit on top of the pump, you should be good to go as far as I know. Regards Timing, yep Datatek or Wammers are the goto guys!

If you have timed it correctly no need to do anything with Nanocom. Pump retaining nuts minimally loose. Cam up, set a couple of mm on dial gauge. Turn engine clockwise until dial gauge stops falling. Set to zero. Turn engine clockwise until timing pin engages. Make sure timing pin is engaged in pin hole and not snagged on timing pip by trying to turn engine other way, should not be movable. Adjust injection pump until 0.9 mm shows on dial, last movement to obtain this MUST be towards engine to take any slack up in pump.

Thanks, once the battery is charged and the rain stops I'll give it a go

Slacken all the injectors slightly nip up as fuel comes through, you may get a start before they are all closed be ready for that. :);)

Thanks, unfortunately the brakes are on today as the rubber plug on injector 6 needs replacing (cracked and leaking fuel) and I don't have 1 will pick one up tomorrow and let you know how I get on

Bit of spill pipe sealed with a suitable bolt would sort that out for the time being.

oh right thought the range used a bosch pump same as our nissan which we run on svo happliy for the last couple of years.

Witches brew is not SVO. It was his own concoction of crap and **** with acetone and petrol mixed in for good measure to ensure a failure at some stage. Fortunately he saved enough by using it to buy a new cylinder head and injection pump and to rebuild his engine. :D:D:D

Don't forget the 6 injectors, specialist tools and complete cooling system lol

Bought the car with <90k on it I've never used diesel ever it now has >180k on the clock a full tank was costing <£10 I've been all over Europe in it? So slate it I'd you like I'm really not fussed, i made a small error adding double petrol once and killed it opps!
