Hi guys well 114k miles and boom on the m6 means i need a new engine can anybody help with some advice its a 4.6 v8 where is the best to get the replacement from do i go new reman or just used? i need help

scour landy breakers and ebay ect, best to go with a recon engine but if you have to buy used, make sure you can hear it run before you buy and make sure the cooling system doesn't over pressurise (indicating a possible liner problem), even used 4.6 engines are expensive and the price is going up because they're not made any more and everyone wants them for kit cars etc.

Whats happened to yours? can't it be repaired/rebuilt?

Bought mine from rpi but it was'nt cheap but they are very good and helpfull.
My thought was that if i was going to take the engine out then i did'nt want to do it again if i bought a short/part engine and one of the old bits took out the new bit. I did the job myself and really enjoyed it but you will need at least an engine hoist. If you need any help or pointers just ask. Again, what was the problem?

Thanks guys the garage i use hasnt looked at it yet but it sounds bad big noise from the bottom end sounds like a con rod has snapped but i would have thought it would seize if that was the case - The nearside exhaust was glowing red hot so suspect a an exhaust valve or two are stuck open and if so the piston must have hit it so i guess i just bite the bullet and buy a new engine - anybody know anything about Turner Engineeering also seen an ad on ebay for a crated lr engine for 1750 sound too cheapto me any ideas

Turner engineering are an honourable company in the same vein as Ashcroft Transmissions, you should have no fears about using them. The 94mm bore Rover blocks are in production again, but where they are actually cast I have yet to find out.LR were a bit premature in closing down production originally as the warranty requirements will carry on till about 2009.A company called Mitchell and Cotts based in Weston Super Mare has sucessfully tendered to LR to fullfill supply of the V8 engine.

Sounds good their website was good too. I only paid 5k a year ago for mine and its a 1998 ltd edition put the prins gas in - been brilliant BPV Servicing in Slough did it grat job.
