New Discovery Owner, with a few question on Oversized Wheels / Suspension

i would just but a flexi arch kit and some extended bump stops, if its just mainly road use i doubt there will be much of a problem

You don't need to fit lifted suspension to fit 235/85 or 265/75 tyres to a disco. You do need to lose some bodywork around the rear arches and a bit of your front bumper end caps. A lot will depend on the type of wheels you've got, more offset helps with steering lock but might need more bodywork removing.

Who told you that? 305/70r16 are only about an inch bigger diameter than 235/85 or have you decided to go even bigger now?

Sorry for the long delay, a bit of a update, got new springs (standards for the front, police spec for the rear) and terrafirma shocks, and fitted these.

This seemed to help a bit (I think the springs that where on was the existing ones and had seen better days)

But after sorting the above out, and getting a service and timing belt, it then needed the standard discovery pass time 'welding' :doh:

So this put me a bit behind, and christmas coming along, so budget was reallocated to presents fund

but now back on to deciding what to do, the front bumper chatches now and again when hitting bumps, but I can see these need to be trimmed, the back still catches now and again when I have load in it, and hitting bumpters, and was wondering about extended bump stops, it seems to be catching on the insode of the rim, there is some metal facing inwards, and was actually thinking of hammering this more flat with the rest of the body, I don't know if this will help.

Also after coming back from the garage after the welding, the exhaust broke, so going to decat and stright through mid section, and just have a back box.

ive got a set of 5 comptomotive 16" wheels with standard size bfgoodrich ATs on, varying from brand new to about 4mm tread on two of them.

i have the exact same wheels General Grabber AT2 235/85/16r but i have a two inch lift on suspension but if you dont want to spend a fortune id recomend body lifts only about 40 or 50 pounds but saves you cutting all the bumper to pieces and also stop the scrapping the top of the wheel arches which is horrible happend to me once when i got stuck while off roading.

At first I started looking at a lift kit as I was changing the spings and shockers, but after checking first with the insurance (which was probable a good move) they wanted to charge me an extra £200 on my policy (about a extra 20-30%) and the excess was going to go up by £50 as well, so since probable 80-90% of the time it will be on the road, I found it hard to justify it.

I assume a body lift would do the same to the insurance,

I was thinking about arches at some point as this doesn't cost any extra on the insurance, or to put extended bump stops all round to stop the tyre from hitting the top of the arch.

The thing is I really like the look of the tyre with the beast, so don't really want to change from them.

yeh i no what you mean with the insurance and all it is a killer and yes it proberbly will coz it makes it more unstable i had my lift on first with 205's very scary and the generals do look awesome makes mine look millions better to ordinary tyres
