I can still chuck 1/2 tonne of boken slabs in the back and pressure wash it out.
I can still rip the TD5 engine and electrics out n put 200 or 300 tdi engine in IF and when I ever need to.
Arguably you could do the same wiv the puma although I don't think you could pressure washer out the front

that looks like a newer discolander
low-profile tyres too.. you'd never see them crawling over rocks..
what I would like to see is something not too dissimilar to the defender, but with the hand-brake somewhere better, a complete lack of mud-traps in the chassis, proper corrosion protection, doors that actually fit, an auto gearbox option, probably an option for more powerful, or more economical engines.
I wonder if there'll be a 2wd version of this defender, like there is on the 'range rover' evoque

As already stated, this will be the end of the iconic landrover. its not going to be the same wading or getting it stuck knee deep in the mud.

so there is a glimmer of light, how many production vehicles look anything like the concept upon which they were based.
IF landrover did release it like that, they would seriously shoot themselves in the foot, they already have a softroader, the freelander, a footballers version, the rangeroony, the defender is the bread and butter machine, adaptable, easily maintained, just look at how many are still on (or off) the roads.

I think that would put a lot of people off the idea of ever buying a Defender. I did find another "design" which if I had to make a choice I would choose.

It needs to borrow parts, design and mechanicals from other models to keep production costs down to make it viable. I personally think that Land Rover should make more of design cues taken from the original car. In particular, roof design, bonnet line and wings, shoulder line, square wheel arches and most of all the 'face' of the old car whislt making it modern. You can spot a Defender a mile away, whether it is in a village in Kenya, Afghanistan or Kent. That should still be the case. How about bollocks to land rover and we carry on making and resurrecting them in various places with the thriving [not brit]parts market and aftermarket mods and upgrades like spaceframe chassis, remanufactured parts alternative interiors and rear tubs newer and lighter technology, advanced engines and electronics even etc.
The companies that supply the land rover factory will surely want to stay in business so let them.
Maybe the defender can continue to be made under a different license of sorts or no license or just make things that look like land rovers and perform like land rovers and keep on kickin ****.
