Any thoughts on whether to buy aftermarket or OEM calipers? What do you actually get for the extra money for OEM? Better anti corrosion? More accurate machining?

Ben

You are entering a world of deception and misleading wording. "OEM quality" does not mean they are made by the original supplier. It merely means they are aftermarket made to OEM specs. OEM means very little these days. Unless they are described as "Genuine OEM" parts.

Also lets not forget, Land Rover. Well most car makers don't actually make all these parts. They get other companies to make they parts, which they buy to then assembly the final product.

Whilst all the above are perfectly accurate - my personal approach to duff calipers has been to replace the pistons with stainless, using new seals. Not had any problems since - apart from the obvious one of if you sell the vehicle, you have to do it all again

Nope.
But edited to say.
Rebuild what you've got, it's easy and cheaper even if you use stainless steel pistons.
I've gave tips on here somewhere as have others so a search should bring it up.
Britpart stainless steel pistons and seal kits are fine but you need to split the calipers so source the gallery seals first because they don't come with the kit.

I bought one genuine and one britpart caliper this year. The finish of the genuine one is a bit better - i.e. they have smoothed off more of the casting marks. I took the pistons out of both to inspect the build quality as I was concerned about the quality of the britpart item - no difference to be seen by the naked eye. Time will tell of course, perhaps the chroming thickness on the pistons is different. Both working perfect so far, no braking difference on the MoT test.
