Hi all, im in the process of buying a N reg 300tdi ES, its been well looked after by the son of a local garage owner who kind of specialises in 4x4's so its fairly good.

The vehicle currently has a fairly high "lift" around 3 or 4 inches ( sorrry i should measure it huh ? ), i understand that "disco's" wander a little or roll on corners, my question is this ! is there a upgrade to shocks or springs etc that can help with stability ?

Also for a new boy what "easy" mod's can be done to improve performance and or mpg ? can someone give me a few pointers so i can start getting my hands dirty :)

Steve.

Unless you intend to use the disco off-road, reverting back to normal spec. springs and good quality shocks may be the best way to go. Also check suspension bushes and ball joint on rear 'A' frame, excesive wear will affect road holding and rolling on corners. As far as mpg, just ensure that all parts of fuel system are in good order, including lift pump and check fuel sedimenter bowl is not full of gunge. I changed the injectors and replaced the turbo hoses on my '94 300, engine much smoother and slightly better mpg. Getting hands dirty is a fact of live with disco ownership, but can be enjoyable. Beware, it can get expensive!

Thanks for the reply, i should have been more specific, sorry, i do intend doing some off roading so want to keep that "lift" and will use the disco for day to day travel thankfully not too far to get to work :) i was just wondering about all these threads on her about removing fans, fitting induction kits etc etc, lots to think about and spend my wages on huh :)

Steve.

Removing the 'windmill' fan is worthwhile, I never have overheating probs, even when towing the caravan, the Kenlowe fan seldom cuts in. The original viscous fan can reduce MPG by approx. 8 to 10%. Yes your wages will take a bit of a dent owning a Disco, but well worth it. Yust take the ups with the downs, and there will be some downs, believe me!

yer can purchase heavy duty springs which will eliminate roll,
can you find out what springs its currently on??
best way to get good mpg is as mentioned, change fan, fuel lines, filters, pump etc all in good order clean air filter and a boost gauge helps yer drive it and keep off the turbo.
