I'm on the look out for a new battery as mine is foooooked, with the Ctek charger displaying a fault light indicating its not holding its charge.

So, anyone seen any decent deals on any good batteries recently, preferably one with good cold cranking amps?

I've found this one with 900CCA for £93

My original Landrover battery lasted nearly 14 years so I bought another, although it was nearly twice the price of that Hankook one (around £190 from local landrover dealer) , I consider it a worthwhile investment if it last that long.
 
The biggest thing with batteries, how long has it sat on the shelf and does the shop maintain them?
I *had* to buy a halfrauds battery once, fully charged it would only stabilise at 12.4v which is rubbish for a new battery!! Complained but they said there was nothing wrong with it and that it was 'perfect'
 
In the past 5 years, I've bought batteries from three different places around here, Halfords, EuroCarParts and a Boshh auto specialist place. They have all been schit compared to batteries from years ago. Also, I have very little confidence in so called smart chargers, my bikes are all connected to smart chargers and yet I still seem to need to replace the bloody batteries every 3 years. I'm going to try a tractor battery next time I need one for my landy. I think one of the problems with modern batteries is that manufacturers are trying to get maximum power but without increasing the size of the case which means the sludge tray at the base of the battery is shallower than older batteries and crud from sulphation builds up and shorts the plates quicker.

I can get the above battery for £92 from eBay, from a reputable supplier. But Im relying on them using a courier that isn't going to let the battery roll around the back of his van.
Or I can get an identical one by nipping to halfords, but they are charging £130 for essentially the same battery.
£38 difference!!
 
If looking for a tractor battery you need a heavy duty 644 type about 1000cca.
Don't know where you are but if some where near an agri parts/machine dealer they normaly carry a good range of battery's.

I don't know of any agricultural machinery specialists around here but when the time comes I'll look further afield. 1000cca sounds good. The one I've currently got on my series is ok but seems to get lazier than it should in cold weather, anything below 10 degrees.

Ended up buying a Varta Silver Dynamic H3, at 830CCA its got less cold cranking amps than I wanted, but it was available at the local batter shop which meant I was able to fit it today and be back not he road. Its a bit longer but not as tall as my previous battery, so gives more clearance under the seat tray.

I trust varta batteries, one in the garage I had was on a massy 35 tractor then in a caravan at least 20 years old still going strong.
 
Varta were brilliant batteries 20 years ago, the wife's car has a three year old Varta and I m hoping it will outlive the car. Deeper batteries are better than long batteries in my opinion.
