when mine needed changing .. 'cause it split along the tubing
i took the new one in to be powder coated
and was told that the small holes next to the bolt holes
were for gas vent purposes when it were put into the oven after factory painting
i figured that those holes would let moisture in .. aiding the rust process from the inside
after getting it back from the powder coating place .. i blocked those holes up ..
and gave it 4 coats of hammerite ..
( alternating colours so i could see where it be wearing off in time )
then had the garage do the job of fitting it ..
18months ( 30k miles ) back fitted new brake calipers .. gave them the very same hammerite treatment
just changed brake pads yesterday .. and paint holding up real well ..
