Oh flippin’ eck, what have I done!!??
Just traded in my 2014 5-series for a 2012 RRS SDV6 HSE. Picking it up this afternoon. Already the emotional roller-coaster has begun!! Is this a terrible mistake? I’ve always wanted one but the horror stories are really worrying me.
I’m refusing the Evans Halshaw warranty and getting this booked in for the LR 165 multi-inspection check and CarCare warranty - already I’m terrified it won’t pass muster though.
The side-step aluminium trim has fallen before I’ve even collected the car!
Oh gawd!!
Ahem; sorry for the rant. I feel a bit better now :)
 
Yeah, you’re right.
Like so many others, I’ve had some awful experiences with dealer aftersales so I think half of my feeling of dread comes from that.
It will be fine, of course it will. I’m being silly!
The car’s got a full LR service history
It’ll be perfect I’m sure. I’ll report back this afternoon..

Hope you have a very fat wallet and good mechanical and electronic DIY skills. Might like to invest in a Nanocom diagnostics unit too.
Remember, a Range Rover is not a car, it's a hobby. They are very good if kept in a warm dry garage and polished occasionally, it's a fatal mistake to try to use them.
 
@Mr Bigglesworth having read both the threads you have started, I have to say give yourself and everyone else a break. Take a deep breath and stop hoping for/looking for problems before you've even picked the vehicle up. So what a bit of trim fell off. I'm sure they will put it back on before you pick the vehicle up. I would in real life, to a real person , also add, " stop being such a drama queen" but for some reason people get all upset online , when told that :rolleyes:;)
You're buying a vehicle from a dealer , a well known nation wide dealer at that, which would have a warranty but you don't want it. There are also all your consumer rights but you prefer instead to go to a JLR dealership. A dealership that thinks your 5 year old vehicle is OLD, too old for them to be interested in, and who will bend you over the reception desk and screw every penny they can get, out of you.
I know you may, possibly , be trying to be amusing in your posts , but in all seriousness, I honestly thought they were being made by a youngish female, who had never owned a car before , not a 45yr old man. If you are this wound up before you get it, maybe it's the wrong vehicle for you. You will give yourself a heart attack at this rate! Just relax and enjoy your vehicle and when something does go wrong, then start to flap but for now leave the flapping to the birds ;) :D

Range Rover ownership is a roller coaster ride of emotions - enjoy the ride it is all worth it and trust me, you'll join the queue again and ride that 'coaster till the sun sets and you'll be back in the morning for more.....

They will frustrate you, please you, scare you and hurt you (financially) but it is sooooo worth it.

Stop looking for problems, enjoy the car, and deal with whatever it is going to throw at you, when it throws it at you....not before, else all you'll end up doing is flinching and ducking every time you open the doors to get into it....
 
I think what people forget is that they are very complicated machines.
That being said, do poke it and prod it and find everything that is wrong with it before you buy it. It's a good thing getting LR to do a full check. Evans Halshaw, no matter how they dress it up as a professional outfit, with salesmen in suits and ties and a modern showroom, they aren't brand new cars. It is not remotely possible to sell secondhand cars, especially a range rover, in perfect condition as it would decimate their profit margin. Don't be afraid to point out any faults and niggles before they sell it to you as they won't be interested at all after you have given them the money.

Still enjoy it, it won't be cheap, we can all assure you that, but they are interesting cars to drive and own.

The news is.. I collected it (the trim was repaired), I drove it home for 80 miles... and it was terrific. What a machine. All I had hoped for..
(Now I’ve just got to figure out those traction settings, but I’m hoping you lot’ll help me )
Suddenly I’m excited about motoring again. Shoulda done this years ago

Have a look on YouTube, plenty of videos online and should give you a great impression of how capable your new car is.

Glad to hear you are happy and enjoying it so far.

Cheers, I certainly will. I’ve already watched a couple of mind-bogglers - incredible vehicles! Until I saw those, I don’t think I really understood what off-roading was about..
I now feel obligated to challenge this machine for all it’s worth!

Happy motoring. Given your previous posts, before you "challenge this machine for all it’s worth!" I would suggest you book yourself on a Land Rover Experience Day. These vehicles are capable of a lot , but an inexperienced driver can get the vehicle , and themselves,into a lot of trouble. You will have a great day, as well as learning what your vehicle can and more importantly cannot do .
