Series 3 Need to pour petrol in carb to start

Hi guys, im having an issue with my series 3 where when its cold starting, i need to pour petrol into the carb by disconnecting the fuel line and pouring a bit in. For some reason priming the fuel pump doesn't work but when i take out the fuel line, petrol flows pretty well. Pressing the accelerator a couple of times before starting also does not fix the issue. However once the car has warmed up, it runs and starts fine. I'm thinking its something with the carb. Anyone have any ideas?

(weather is currently 35C where im from so i dont think thats the issue haha)

Float needle valve sticking shut, and depending on the carb fitted some have a small inline mesh filter in the pipe
Connection on the carb and these can get blocked,

I see, im not the best mechanic but ill have a go at looking at that. Would i need to take off the whole carburettor or can i keep it attached to the engine?
 
Do you use the vehicle regularly? I have found with my series 3 that in hot weather, if I don't use it for a few days, the petrol in the carb evaporates and it takes ages for the lift pump to refill it. When this happens, I tend to prime the pump by hand before turning the engine over. I have considered fitting an electric fuel pump but haven't gotten around to it yet.

I'd say once or twice a week. I pump it a couple of times until the lift pump feels easy to press/pull on and then some; it does pump the fuel but for some reason the car still wont start until i disconnect the fuel line and pour it straight in to the top of the carb. Maybe im not pumping enough?

What carb do you have?
Hot starting it is recomended to apply some throttle to start as your ambient temp is so high try that.
Some carbs have an accelerator pump which squirts extra petrol in when pedal pressed.
 
I think its a zenith copy, its been on it since i bought the car. It says 4085 on a little tag on one of the screws which i think is a slightly different version of the normal zeniths.
I did that yesterday, held the accelerator and it ran for about 30 seconds but it stalled again.
Im not sure if mine does, the car used to work fine when it was running but pressing on the accelerator seems to not to anything.
Maybe a rebuild is in order?

I have to use full choke on mine to start it, even in hot weather, the choke needs to be pulled out for a few minutes until the temp guage starts to rise. Are you using the choke?
