I've never had a headlining fitted since I bought it and think it's about time I done something. What's the best diy way to do it as a genuine one is too dear, I've been thinking along the lines of glueing some nice mouldable type carpet but wonder if it may just end up being a soggy sponge due to condensation.

That stick on carpet stuff is 100% nylon or some other man made stuff. It wouldn't hold moisture I wouldn't have thought.

I wouldn't bother. I was thinking about taking the factory fit head liner out of mine. It traps condensation and dirt and looks ugly. Sticking carpet to yours will devalue it and somebody else will spend ages scraping it all off. Condensation won't go away just because you stick carpet on, it'll just go mouldy.

Have a look at a channel on YouTube called roaming the out back. One of his videos shows how he did his.
Sound insulation stuck to the roof, then foam from camping mats then marine carpet on top of that.

I have a 90 pickup
Which is a proper farm truck but got fed up with condensation dripping on the lady in the passenger seat and her moaning.
( she is no longer the lady iin my life )
Cut a foam camping mat and contact adhesive to make mine.
Makes it a bit quieter and no condensation drips.
Top tip try to avoid purple mat
Nice plain green to match the truck.

That's one of the main reasons for doing it as the other half is getting a shower whenever we hit got a bump.

Whatever you decide make sure you use high temp glue or it will eventually fall off. I didn one with Evostick and it looked great for a few weeks but then gave up the ghost. You can buy the carpet stuff and glue from ebay etc and its called Veltrim. You will have seen it in mini buses and coaches it like a grey carpet but easily molds and bends.

I've taken out mine and am generally pleased. But oftentimes I see how much condensation has gathered on the ceiling and it starts to drip down.. it looks much smarter without the headlining, but having to wipe down the ceiling from condensation has made me obstain from heating the truck in the winter all together.. I even dress up in additional base layers and drive around with windows open :|

Mine is glued directly to the roof so will have to see how it goes through winter

And this is why I love my rag top! Quieter (unless I'm on the motorway) warmer and no dripping condensation!
