hello fellow rangers... Im having a bit of a thought here, When i switch on my air conditioner in the car, for the first few mins it blows cold air, but once im on the road or so, the cooling starts to go down and infact it starts to blow a bit warm air. Do you think that I need to regas, is there a way i check if i need to regas.
Thanks

check that the condensor at the front of the vehicle int blocked with dead flies, wasps, small poodles and the occasional owl, if yer drive at night. also check between the condensor and the rad

to check fer gas , one way is to open bonnet, start injun and switch on air con. you should hear a click and if you look at th efront center of yer A/C comp it should be turning.
if your are low on gas than the electro clutch wint kick in and yer pulley center will not turn

although if it work at first then dies i reckon yer condensor IS blocked

I had a similiar problem on a mondeo it would work at idle ok but once aboce 2k stopped workin turned out the clutch on the compressor had worn and needed reshimming this needs to be done before the coil in the clutch burns out, Easily done as access on rr is easy.

hello guys, today i cleaned the front condenser of all bug, wasps and leafs and then switched on the engine, switched on the AC but the large 2 fans on the front (just underneath the front grill) didnt seem to turn onn, dont know why. Now i have checked all my fuses and relays, all seem to be fine, no error display on the cluster, no book symbol, nothing at all. any remedies why isnt the fans turning or the AC cooling, would it be low on gas or so, but before throwing in money is there a possiblity to check what is the likely problem

also can someone please guide me where can i find the compressor clutch.
Regards

I followed Slops advice on the compressor clutch and did a bit of work on monday, couldnt open the shim/plate as I couldnt, dont know how to open, anyways as i was fiddeling around with it, I managed to put the shim a bit inn and bang on my ac started to work each time i switched it on. Today I went to have the gas checked and the gas was perfectly fine, the AC mechanic fiddled around with the compressor clutch and now im having the same problem, each time i switch on the ac, the clutch doesnt engage and i need to push it towards the belt to make it rotating.

I have included some pictures, can someone please tell me how can i adjust the compressor clutch and how can i open the shim / plate. Dont know how to get open the damn thing or adjust it. The AC mechanic told me he will charge £150 to skim and recondition the whole unit. Is there anyway out or a DIY to get it working once again. Please help...

Did this comp clutch shim removal at the weekend. Easy job...

Remove the Nyloc nut shown in the picture you've taken with the caption 'How can I take of this plate' (sic). It's IIRC a 14 or 15mm nut, you'll need a socket to remove it as you can't get a ring spanner it, and you'll need to hold the front plate still somehow. I used the spanner supplied with an angle grinder (for changing wheels) across two of the three holes in the front of the plate.

The nut's not hugely tight as the plate's on splines. Once you've got the plate removed, there's a shim washer on the shaft behind. Remove shim, and reassemble. Job Done.

thanks, will try it out on sat.
Thanks once again :)

the gap may have increased due to it slipping, down to a lack of voltage at coil in clutch assembly!
there was a LR service buletin for this, they supplied an aditional loom to up the power at the clutch, i did it to mine and removed a shim too.
no probs since!

I was reading some other posts and found that even if you put the additional loom you still need to keep the distance to the minimum, so would it be worth spending for the loom or just remove the shim.
Thanks

Ohh and today i managed to get the front condenser fan running, one of them runs, the other one doesnt, can it be due to the connection or faulty fan...

couldnt say but, if one is running the other should be! check for power supply to the non runner when the good un is running!

as far as the loom power supply to clutch goes i removed the shim on mine aswell, gap was bigger than .8mm!

How did you manage to get them running??

The real test to check whether one is shagged or not would be to unplug both fans and then just apply 12 volts directly to each fan. If it still doesn't turn then its buggered and you would need a new set of fans, if it does then you know its a problem somewhere further back.

Just right behind the condensor is a huge fan to cool the radiator i guess, i heald that one and switched on the car, the switched on the ac, banged the clutch and let the car and ac running for 5 mins, once the car got a bit hot, the ac bar pressure increased, thus the condensor fan started turning.
