Hi all i have a series 3 with a 200 tdi.
Its been brilliant and aint had a problem yet but earlier it started as it should of and i got about 50 yards down the road and it cut out. Theres no resistance in the lift pump when you prime it and evrytime you try to start it it will start then splutter and die.
What do you think the problem could be any help will be greatfull and desprite to get it runing again as i need it for work

million pund bet says..

1) blocked stack pipe, (take drivers seat out and undo the two screws on a manifold with pipe coming out, there is a fine mesh/ gause on bottom , just cut this off, jobs a good'un

2) fuel filter (replace fuel filter), fill it(filter) with diesel before replacing saves on priming up !
3) lift pump, this is common but the most expensive , well £15, so try others first..

keep me posted i had same thing about a month ago

Thanx for the reply. Put a new fillter on it and took the feed pipe off the lift pump and blew it back to to tank put it all back together and its all good.

yeah costly at times, a million pounds in fact !... no i had it and everyone was clueless that i took it too !... what speeds does your series do ? and what differentials does it have ?

It got a lt77 box and undure of what diffs they are they are from a disco 1991. And discs allround to so i can stop
It will sit at 60-70 nice but will go to 85 but it dont like it.

My 200Di S3 did exactly the same . . .
Two problems - (a) top of fuel pipe stack inside tank corroded right at the top and full of holes, pulling loads air through and little fuel, (b) fuel filter bunged solid with waxy gunge from whatever the previous owner had stuck in the tank.

It happend again. And i took the tank off and steam cleaned it inside and let it to dry run a new feed pipe and new fillter and all seems good now. The the pipe had colapsed inside as when i was blowing the line back it was ok for a little while then happend again.

ah right i see, blimey you must be running some bad fuel !, im running used veg, motor oil and diesel and mines fine at the moment
