Just curious if your dream car is a Discovery, why isn't it in the mix?
it is but with the budget i have inmind it would have to be a petrol after 55/56 plate to be ulez free and theres not many options available tbh

if i was after a 55/56 plate diesel that wouldve been easier to get a hold of something

OK, well that was a long time ago, I know as I spent a year in Slovakia setting up the plant that was making the bumpers for them.

But many companies share platforms and yet manage to find a different feel between them.
Cheers
slovakia huh? what was that like?

As I said before they could all leave you stuck if you get the wrong one.
It’s a matter of not rushing and do your homework learn what to check on each different model.

J

Not owned any of them but friends have and I suspect the Porsche is less likely to give issues but whereas the L322 roughs you up a bit the Porsche does the all on Kray workover with the full Frankie Frazer.

Some of the touareg models had steering lock issues, colum out job.
Some of the cayenne models had anti freeze pipes that needed changing and the L322's.... :p
All depends on how much of a car nut the previous owner was. ;)

This just reminded me of my decision to buy an L322 all those years ago. I wanted an L322, or as it was known at the time, 'the new Range Rover'. I loved the look of it, it made my Disco( and most other 4x4s) look rudimentary, BUT, I decided to be sensible, for once, and look at other 4x4s.
I looked at the Cayenne , decided it was ugly, and, like the cars, my leg hit the steering every time I braked.
I looked at J**p , they were ok but felt cheap, and, I couldn't past the 'dad's , wife and 2.4 kids ' looks
I looked at Volvo, but it felt like a Ford. Enough said .
I looked at Toyota, and boy did I love it. It turned my head from the L322, although my heart was still in love with the Range Rover. All butch, and glossy, with leather interior. All kinds of gadgets galore. Even the promise of being able to tow the horsebox AND be able to get out of muddy fields. Wow! The Range Rover was still winning but only by a hair. Until the test drive.
What an uncomfortable place to live. Nothing was quite right. However, the clincher was the same as the Cayenne: every time I braked , my knee hit the steering wheel. Before anyone says 'you can adjust them', well duh , yeah. That was with it at highest point.
So, in summary, many may make claim to be as good as, or be similar to, but , if you are after a luxury 4x4, even if you are never going to use it for it's proper role, I have yet to meet one that outshines the Range Rover.

Especially if you are tall.;)
