Need Advice from anyone running mickey t tyres

Currently running on my 300tdi disco mickey t tyres, great tyres and dont want to get rid of them but wondering if anyone else has had a prob running them on a diesel. obviously its going to be slower trying to turn those big bits of rubber but has it affected anyones steering at all like they are having to fight the car to stay straight at 30mph/4th gear. i have to just drive it in 3rd to keep the turbo up, think need to adjust the fueling pin on the engine.

any advice always appreciated. :)

Something's wrong with either those particular tyres, or a tyre, or the steering system if you're fighting to keep it straight, more details needed to remotely diagnose ... is the Disco lifted, what kit is on it, extra equipment? tyre sizes, pressures, loads of things to consider, even the state of the A-frame bushes!!
 
Running Mickey T Baja claws 325/16 I think. Running them on 18psi ATM when I first got the car they were on about 40psi and steering was worse. Has 2" lift kit and 2" body lift. However the 2" lift has been done on blocks not springs. Hope this helps.
 
18psi ? thats far too low! Pressure is meant to be about 32psi and 38psi from memory

Think that would be too high for big tyres like that. But I agree that 18 is too low for road use.
I think I would try about 25 psi all round, and try increasing the pressures a little if it was too sluggish.
I don't know Discos, but with a 90 you only need to put the rears up to 38psi for towing or heavy load carrying.
 
Mine are set at 32 all round unless I tow then I bump it up to 36/38

Got engine in the boot at the minute and they're still at about 32

Doubt if yu need the pressures up to carry an engine short distances. I think that's more if youre fully loaded and on the motorway.
I run mud tyres at 28 all round, but I will let them down to 20 all round if its really greasy and Im working on the farm, and put them up to 32 if I need to go longer distances on the road.
For towing I have another set of wheels with ATs, 28 in the front and 40 in the back on those ones.
Worth checking the writing on the sidewalls first, some tyres say on them not to inflate over 35psi.

And I use the car to do 500 miles a week currently :rolleyes: :doh:
 
they were set to 35psi origionally and it handled really bad and was struggling to keep it in a straight line, so got told to lower the psi to 18 by a friend who is running his mudzilla tyres on this. lowered it to this and its better but still a bit of a hand full.
 
have you checked the stuff mentioned in the other fred?

There is loads of people that run tyres without your symptoms, granted there never going to be like low profiles but they shouldn't have you gripping onto the steering wheel for life or death.

Like i said before i wouldn't bother with the tracking with tyres that big, at least not professionally anyway. As soon as you bump it up a few curbs your £30 will be wasted. Get a mate and a tape measure. Measure between the wheels at the front of the tyre and at the rear of the tyre. While your there measure between the chassis rails and the inside tyre walls to see if your pan hard rod needs adjustment.

If you got problems with steering, you steering geometry is way out of whack, Focus on ball joints, bent rods and get it all aligned by a pro. If your tyres have uneven wear that will create problems also. The Bag of possibilities is to big to just grab 1 answer
