Looks like I may be up for my 3rd landy in 4 months. I bought a ex mod 90 in september last year, and sold that a week or two for a 200tdi 110 csw. Unfortunately, a week later the engine seized due to a broken conrod, and is now sitting in the back of my "mechanic's" "work"shop while he "inspects" it. Looks like it is probably a new engine job, and now my employer says I must move to surrey for a year or two to assist in one of our projects over there. I will need to be making regular trips into london (an hours drive with good traffic) and also to cambridge and thereabouts (about 2 hours drive with good traffic) I will need to be doing both of these trips around once or twice a week, so a defender, especially a broken one just isn't going to do. I definitely want a land rover, as a lot of the sites I visit are only accessible via tracks or by driving cross country (type). Not too serious, but I wouldn't take my "JAAAAG" there. Anyway, I can't afford to run three cars, so I suppose my broken defender will have to go. So basically I need a land rover that will travel big motorway miles during the week and go off roading every weekend. This "off roading" isn't super hard core stuff, nothing a defender would really struggle with, but it's basically lots of mud and top of bumper height wading. So the budget is 10k (although I can go a little over since I get a nice bonus for this move) and the vehicle needs a manual transmission, as I can't stand autos. It will obviously have to be quite reliable so I'm thinking a series 1 discovery or vehicle of that era is probably out.
Anyway, what do you recommend?
