While I was playing with the off-side air spring I noticed what looked like a fluid leak on a pipe - see attached photo. Not sure what that pipe is? Coolant? Anyway, I took a photo and tightened the jubilee clip a little just in case. The fluid was slightly sticky so didn't appear to be coolant. I've cleaned the area up and I'll see if it returns but any idea what it could be?

Other possible hints: no sign of any leakage from brakes. The shock looked pretty new so maybe that had leaked in the past and been replaced (although never seen one squirt across an engine.) The rocker cover is showing signs of slight oil leakage but no running down the block or anything like that.

Petrol or diesel??

I had a similar oily-goo on one of my pipes, it turned out to be a leakage from the intercooler pipe for the turbo, just required the pipes & cooler
degreasing & a good 'swill' out.

Sorry, should have mentioned that. Yes, '95 2.5 DT.

OK. So nothing serious. I cleaned it up and tighted the clip while I was in there so hopefully that'll hold it for now!

It is a diesel and that is the turbo feed pipe. Remove wash off and refit. You may like to think about flushing the intercooler out.

Sorry Wammers but I'm new to diesels. Isn't the intercooler just like a radiator that cools the air down before it enters the engine? Are you saying there might be oil contamination or similar from the turbo? So when you say flush, presumably you mean remove the intercooler and flush with petrol or similar and then leave to dry in the sunshine (remembering we've had the wettest summer on record and it is now autumn! :)) Is it a job that could probably wait till the Spring?!

Some oil contamination is normal in the intercooler but looking at that pipe it's not been done for a least 1000 years and it should be done around every 48,000 miles.

A new pipe is £5.16 I just bought one if that oily probably find pipe is soft and not much life left before it goes pop

Good call there.

I'll give it a squeeze next time I'm fiddling, although it didn't seem too bad when I was cleaning it out. Datatek might be right about the pin holes though. I'll see if the oil comes back.
