The first time this happened I ended up purging the air completely and refilling the system and fitting the radiator neck with RTV, and installing TWO clamps on it.. Now about a month and a half later the hose blows off again. The funny thing about it is that i have been under the hood when its running warm, and the top hose is never hard...? Why does it keep doing this?

Is it time to replace my expansion tank cap, because I heard that is a maintainace item, and maybe the pressure has no where to escape.

Please help me, please.:(

I had those "Mickey mouse" spring hose clips fail-replaced them with the good old Jubilee type clips. If you have those fitted (The Jubilee) then I would go for replacing the expansion tank cap. We use the Jubilee type at work on compressed air hoses and they comfortably stand 100 p.s.i. without any problems, and we dont use any sealant on them.

great advice, everywhere i turn people is like "its the head gasket", "its the head gasket", yadi yada yada.

Thats where im gonna start.

I've had to replace the lump on my4.6 V8 due to slipped liner/porous block syndrome and the same on a Classic 3.9 I had previously.
First signs were loss of water, in both cases using at least 3pints in 10 miles and steam spewing out of the exhaust like a train. With the 3.9 the water also went into the sump and the inside of the rocker covers were covered with emulsified oil.I chang linered the head gaskets twice in one week thinking it was the cause to no avail.
The 4.6 went suddenly, parked it for about 2 hrs.,came back & started it-steam out of the exhaust-clouds of it. Got it home, no water, let it cool, topped it up and tried to start it engine went solid then spun slowly and fired up. Took the plugs out and found one washed clean-here we go again!!
Took the heads off, gaskets perfect,so new lump fitted.

My car MAYBE uses a pint every month or two, tops. My only problem is maybe the thermo cap, or tired spring clamp.

Im sure if I had a problem of that magnitude it would have already come out in the open by now.
