Soon as you hit a sharp rock the finish will be scratched.

That is not a big problem on galv coating. Zinc on steel has two functions. In the first instance it completely covers the steel and prevents contact between the underlying steel and the environment. Zinc itself has good corrosion resistance because it is usually coated with compounds of low solubility (oxide, hydroxide, carbonate) and the zinc coating on the steel is therefore slow to deteriorate. But even when deterioration by loss of zinc does begin to occur, the second feature of the corrosion protection mechanism comes into action and the zinc acts as a sacrificial anode,
protecting the steel against corrosion even when the coating is incomplete or damaged.
