Plot thickens

Seems there are two set-ups on the front casing.

What I thought was a Pressure Relief Valve - coming off just above the oil filter would appear just to be some sort of blank, it consists of 4 parts, circlip, cap, spring and tube.

After cleaning the casing I also found, just below the oil pick up to the gears

another Pressure Relief Valve? which consists of a circlip, cap and spring.

Both springs measure 65mm both set ups are the same measurements only difference is the tube at the oil filter end

I know the GEMS and Thor covers are different but I don't know what is different. Some of the bolts are in different places. Maybe the springs are too?

If you follow my GEMS front Cover replacement thread you'll note the procedure well...:D

lso I have a thread on the if the Oil Pump needs to bed in, you'll find a diagram of the oil passageways through the front cover there too....

There are 2 relief valves in both the GEMS and THOR front covers....one is the main oil gallery pressure relief valve and the second is a bypass if the filter gets clogged.

iirc my free length was around 64mm too....

The longer the spring, the greater the pressure required to move it, so in theory pressure should increase.

O ring size of the PRV end caps are detailed in my GEM FC thread....I think it as 19x1.5mm size! as for the Oil Pick up, I don't remember, working in an engineering firm, I just went through the boxes till I found one to fit!

It is also wise to replace the O rings on the oil cooler pipes that fir to the front cover too....

I did read that but with the amount of research I did in the last week, couldn't find it again, thought it was on another forum that I had referred to!.

Biggest problem is finding replacement O rings, still having no joy, looks like I will need to go with the old ones.

Today hoping to take the oil pump apart and do the two checks shown in RAVE

YeeeHooooooooooooooooooooooo

Found the Oil pressure problem
Took the casing apart, had to drill out one of the screws

The outer gear in the pump has a rather large crack in it!

as seen in the following (at the 9 oclock position)

So next question is replace the gears or replace the entire front cover?

Decided to treat myself to some mindless violence before finishing up for the morning.
The old side step clamps have been annoying me every time I slide under the motor so decided to remove them as I won't be putting side steps on.
If anyone wants a set I'm open to offers, however remember they will need a rub with some emery paper and a coat of paint before re-fitting!;)

Here is the offside ones!

oh just so you dont replace them...

i fitted all new plugs, leads etc just a few hundred miles ago :)

Yip saw that.

Looks like I've at least reached the top of the hill now - hopefully

Brake parts ordered and once new cover and brakes done, should be MOT time
and then the inside to concentrate on.

Happy days

you might want to get a servicing kit for the eas pump. I never serviced it and I suspect it never has been.

Lol whats the EAS pump got to do with the battery

Just its cheap to get the kit to sort it, and expensive if it goes wrong....

Need to get it running first, costs are mounting, think I'm up to about £750 all in now including the new HEVAC panel and original Radio Cassette:D

Had a bit of interest in it already:cool:

lol

Not going to keep it then?

If I drop round a 110csw for a rebuild can i pick it up a few weeks later? ;)
