1980 Series 3 Deisel. Please any advice is appreciated. I have spent all last night when I should of been in the pub, trying to find on the web the correct colour code for my water temperature sender on the net. The closest info I could find was for the petrol engine ( beige) The one in my landy partially works ,but is black so this doesnt mean its the correct one. Any ideas ,thank you in advance

Interestingly enough they both have the same part number...... are the petrol and diesel ones the same?

I am not sure, my reference to the beige one comes from a Haynes manual but is refering to a pertol engine.

a couple of questions mate

1 what series is your landy
2 what wiring phase is it positive earth or negative earth
3 is it an alternator conversion or on a dynamo

its the black one for the diesel series 3 10j engine ( if its situated on top of the cylinder head between the back 2 pots

the black one has a lower heat range as diesels run a little cooler than petrols the beige one is set for higherr temperatures

hence if the one you have fitted is beige its no wonder you only have it half working

Thank you ,I replaced it with a black one and now the temperature gauge is fine . Cheers
