is it just me or do the tyres not seem to fit the rims properly?

Cheers for the reply about the heater mate, jst as I bloody feared then, whole shaggin dash out!! Grrrrr lol... that can wait til the mots up and I do the re, build..

As for the tyres I think they fit correctly, beenbin 6 months with no problems so I'm not worried, well not until you mentioned it!!! Now I'm going to be para everytime I go past 40!!! Lol...

Right then my first job i want to tackle is to fit a winch bumper and winch..
After reading green hornets write up and video I think I will go with the same winch, the warrior 9500hp, I noticed that he made his own bumper as he said the shop brought bumper s won't fit correctly on lifted landys, is this correct????

Cheers...Clive

Haha well lucky enuf iv been given the option to rent a space in a unit that already fixes cars so I think il do that , save me buying expensive tools like welders ect plus I can do all the work in doors in the warm!!! Nothing worse than working on cold metal is their!!!!

Nice looking motor:)

Now go and buy a welder :D

I think its because he put a body lift on,so it was easier to fab one up rather than cut up a shop bought one.

Hello Clive and welcome.

Re your heater problem, you say that you only get heat on position 2 - I'm assuming you mean on the fan speed selector? Is this the only position the fan will work? If it is the fan problem it's very easily sorted !!!

You have a TDi 300 and with this model you can access the fan and it's speed resistor by removing the the glove box (2 screws from memory) then you are right there!

If I might suggest something? If the car was mine I would be changing all fluids - oils and coolant - and all filters, straight away. This will give you:
a. a baseline for future servicing;
b. an excellent opportunity to assess the mechanical fitness of the vehicle.

I would also replace the cambelt at the same time.

Re servicing intervals if you are going to use this vehicle off-road alot, ignore the LR service intervals - she is going to need servicing at least twice as often if not more, to keep her in optimum condition.

Paddockspares.com is an excellent place for bits.

Enjoy your new toy she looks the business.

Hi dave, thanks for the welcome and helpful advice, the more posts like that the easier it wil be! Lol....

Yer I had planned on changing oil, filters ect ect, do this to all my new cars, bikes ect, like you say, gives us a good idea of how well or BAD shes been looked after!!!!
Seems these days people take very little if no intrest at all in keeping their motors in tip top condition, I mean how many people do you see cleaning their cars on a sunday morning these days?? Exactly hardly any! 10 yrs ago half my st used to be out on a sunday morning fixing, cleaning their pride and joy, not these days tho, don't see anyone out!!! Sad realy..

soooo yet another noob question I'm affraid!! Lol... iv had look wat L, R recommend for oil but is their a certain type you lot are using?? Dont mind spendingthe extra money for quality,
Also I need to get a manual but iv seen a few people refer to the haynes manual as the haynes manual of lies??? Is their a offical LR manual instaed??

Cheers....clive

hI cLIVE, TO BE HONEST I'm less bothered about the quality (10-40w) and more about how often it gets changed. I'll change the 110 oil and filter every 3000mls.

You need to Google download RAVE - it's a free download.

Hi dave, sorry its taken so long to reply... as youl see frm the pics in my next post iv been habeing to much fun to get online! !! Lol...

R.e the heater.. yer it only works on setting number 2, and as we all knw a ant farting produces more hot air!!!!!

So yer what's thisneasy fix you mention??? Cheers mate....c

Hi ya lads, hope everyone is well and haveing more luck with their disco than me!!! Lol..
Nar to be fair I'm well happy with her, after seeing most discos on here with more rust than a old mini I was naturally dreading jacking the old girl up and haveing a proper look for the dreaded rust but to my supprise shes darn bloody solid!!
Even the boot floor has already been replaced!!! Bonus or what!!

She was put in for m.o.t last week and past with flying colours, the only thing he said was to get the rear passenger sill on right side patched up as theirs a small whole starting but as I plan on replacing the original sills with steal box section thats no problem at all, so all in all I'm a very happy camper!!! Lol
Well almost!! As youl see frm my pics I took her off roading last sunday!!!

Il keep it short but quick run down of the day....

We had planned on going avon dassett but woke on sunday morning, quick check to double check their open n low and behold over night they cancled all events!! Gutted, so I hurriedly do a search for any track in midlands that's open, after an hrs searching I finally find a track in shifnal telford that's open, buzzin I thought so packed up the dog into the disco, picked up my mate then meet my other mate in his bobbed classic v8 range..

So off we go in our mini convoy, getting many a thumbs up frm passers by, sat nav says 50min, not to bad u may think but after a 1 and half on the rd we stil cnt find the blooming place then as were sitting in a layby trying to ring the organizer to no avail when I see a 90 off roader fly past!!! so after a quick dash to catch up (poor old girl never been so fast!! Lol) we follow him to the track we jst simply couldn't find!!!

So we pull in to see the course starts off by going up a very steep and at the time extremely wet a muddy hill!! No bear in mind this is my first outing as the driver, only other off rding iv done was as 15yr old passenger in my mates series 1!!! Lol
So as you can imagine my ring piece was twitching jst a tad!!! Lol
So we have a quick cuppa tea n smoke to calm me nerves then set off exploring the track, and oh my days what a track!! Bit steep we thought at 30 quid per truck but after going round the track we all agreed 30 is well worth it, if anyones been to avon dassett this track is twice as big with more tracks going thru forest ect ect...

All day my disco performed brilliantly, better than any of us thought, every wheir my mates classic bobbed v8 range went my disco followed without complaint, hell even my mate got stuck wheir my disco just plowed thru!!! The only time I got stuck was when I gave my mate a lift to get help and like a #### was looking wheir I was going a fell down a huge ass hole!! As youl see in the pics!!! Lol but a kind fellow in a 90 winched me out..

So yer she performed flawlessly all day then jst as we was about to go home I decided to let my passenger have a blast round some of the easier pasrts of the track.... yep you knw it, bad bad move!!! I'm in my mates v8 in front with my mates following in my disco, I get half way round wheni notice their no longer behind me, so I revers all the way bk down the track to see my beloved disco stranded, bonnet up with steam everywheir!!!!
Bloody sod only fried my head gasket!!!!
My own fault realy as I even said b4 we set off lets make this the last go around so we make sure we can drive home!!!! You jst knw when somethings about to go, sort of 6th scense type

Nice pictures DC and a great day out by the sound of it. I loved the look on your dogs face.

Re the fan heater, the speeds are controlled by a resistor pack fastened to the side of the fan. Access is easy, just take off the glove box and you can get right at it.

Never worked on a diesel befor but hey ho its how we learn ay... plus iv got a mechanic to watch over me incase I get stuck so all in all not to bad, mhe says its prity easy job so wil get started monday, get the head shioed out for re, grind n all going well I'll be bk out in 2 weeks!!! Well I can wish!! Haha

So with the heater all I need to replace is the resistor pack?? Take its just a simple clip on jobby?? Wil order one frm flebay n get it done while I'm doing engine...

Anybody got any good tips for taking head off? Anything I need to be aware of?? As iv already seen the strange way l.rovrs are designed! !! Lol

That's really unlucky mate, but you seem to have had a blast, if that's the right term to use. lol. I hope you didn't put the guilt trip on your mate too long telling him it must be the way he drives. Not long got a 200 tdi auto myself, in very much standard spec. You have many of the goodies I would like. I wondered how the auto would cope...you were impresed?

Hi mate, sorry for late reply, work life seems to be getting in the way of my social life more and more these days!! Not good! Lol....

As for the auto box off road, well after driving my auto and my mates v8 manual that day I'm an auto convert!!! Lol never ever had a auto befor as I'm some what of a purest but for off road the auto wins out I'm affraid, sure it wil take more maintenance but it just made the whole experience so more relaxing and enjoyable, not having to constantly ride the clutch is a massive bonus!! Obviously its down to personally choice but my dicso auto went everywhere my mates v8 went without getting stuck!, so all in all I'm glad its a auto, hell I nearly never brought her because she was a auto!!! Lol

Morning gang!!! Off to work in a sec but fort id post couple pics of the work iv done so far in replacing the head gasket...
Got the engine striped down yesterday, took me 3 bloody hrs mind you!! But hey it is first time iv striped a disco so not to bad...
I'm actualy glad the head blew now as you want to see how dirty the insides are!!! I'm talking exhaust ports full of carbon, oil feed whole was only half a hole as the other half was blockedup with crap!!! No wonder my mpg was so shocking!!! Lol so a full de-coke and steam clean should Iimprove things!!!

Anyway couple pics for ya, not the best as forgot camera so had to use phone..

Heads getting re,grind and pressure test today so all going well I'll be out for this sundays pah n play day up the telford track, if anybody fancies tagging along with my disco and mates bobbed v8 range your more than welcome, more the merrier n all that!!!!

If your riding the clutch your in the wrong gear:)

Haha I just knew someone would say that but was already running late so didn't bother to change "riding" to "constantly" using the clutch! !!!

You knw what I mean, same as when your in slow moving traffic and constantly having to dip the clutch..... looks like il have to choose my words a bit better with all the eagled eyed f...kers waiting to pounce! !! Haha:pound:

Quick question for anybody's who cares to answer! Lol.... I'm thinking of blanking off my egr and was just wondering if their was anything else needed to be changed other than the pipe work, blanking plate ect? I.e does the ecu need updating?? Cheers....clive

Couldn't help it:) I know what you mean about traffic and clutchs,my legs aching just thinking about it. Egr should be just the blank plate and new hose.
