All looking very smart. It's amazing the difference a lick of paint makes, isn't it?

Have you done a serious investigation of how far the rust goes in the bulkhead yet? By the time people get round to using filler it can be quite serious in my experience.

No I haven't brown I'm almost scared to look!! I know it needs welding on the same corner on the inside too! So I'm guessing I'm going to have to rebuild the whole corner

There's a few photos by Paul D on his thread about repairing his defender. Let's see if the link works

Some of the pictures look like a catalogue for all the repair sections you can buy. It looks easy in the pictures but I'm just thinking about all the work involved . . . .

If it's gone on one side, chances are the other side is not too clever either. Sorry to be full of doom and gloom but it's always better to appreciate the full horror of the situation.

No I prefer you being straight up and saying the worst rather then sugar coating it and I open a can of worms!! :) The other side is actually ok. Had a look from both sides and it's seems solid, sanded it down when painting it and no issues!! I'll have a look through the thread tomorrow when I'm home.

Thanks for the help Brown! Appreciate it

My pleasure.

Probably worth salvaging it then if the other side is OK. Looking forward to some pictures of the repair panels going in.

There's a Defender for sale by means of a bit of paper Blu-tacked to the window near me whose bulkhead seems to be an amazing confection of filler, rust and multiple coats of paint. That'll be a big challenge for someone.

The defender has now gone :( Wasn't suitable for the long commuting miles I was doing so got a bmw 3 series for the longer miles! Thank you everyone for your help on my questions and I hope to save up and get one in a couple years so I'll be back!! :)
