Ewe could always get some ramps from Machine mart - £30 a pair. I bought a pair and they're really nice. Though if you have the facilities, by all means build your own HippoRamps :D.

Bit of an old thread but I finally got around to replacing the rear diff mounts this weekend (thanks to Hippo for his guide).
However I still seem to have a bad knocking sound from the rear. Any other suggestions as to what i could check? Unfortunately it's not the easiest thing to replicate without driving the vehicle at which point diagnostics are a tad awkward!

I also get occasional juddering from the vehicle when lightly braking at a slow speed (I.e. driving through town) this also causes the knocking to happen quite violently. Separate issues but may shed some light on it?

One of my back box rubbers popped off giving me a loud knock when taking up drive. Worth a look! The exhaust was hitting the subframe where it comes thru. As for juddering when braking, I'd start with the brakes. Does it go when you brake harder? Mine had seized pads and badly corroded discs, stripped everything down, derusted, copper slipped, put back together with new discs and pads. Now it out brakes my Disco 2 easily:)

It does go if you brake harder, and I was told all the discs and pads were replaced summer last year. Having said that when I bought it the VCU was almost seized so care and attention to the vehicle clearly wasn't great - I'll check them out myself.

Interesting I have had the back box off a lot lately as it made accessing the rear diff for re-sealing the gasket and changing the mounts much easier. All the rubber mounts appeared good but it never once occurred to me to try moving the exhaust back and forth to see if it's knocking the rear crossmember or anything.
You might be onto something there....
 
I did yes - the motor was fine but one of the cables had become tangled within it, seizing the whole thing.
I ended up buying a whole kit (around £80 off eBay) and once fitted, the recalibration was simple. It still 'struggles' IMO when going up but it works fine.
