Hi, I have finally found my dream P38, Its Black,Manual,4,0se,LPG 93k Leather Interior, from articles i have read it always stated, full sevice history and ideally one owner, well i found this car and its pretty close to that criteria. What im asking is a crash course in owning one of complicated cars, and try to avoid some of the pitfulls that happen to novice owners. I will be collecting the car on Sunday so looking forward to that day. So when i get it home what are the dos and donts with these cars? Is there any DIY servicing that owners can do, any equipment on the market for DIY mechanics, should i keep a look out for parts to help in any fault find, if so what parts are the ones to get. Anyway bedtime Colin from Hull whos just finished work (shifts)

Hi Colin,
Welcome New Range Rover owner, Loads of threads with a world of experience on this forum so you should find what you need. Use the search, several people have asked a similar question recently.

Remember the p38's are a beautiful car but most have been repaired on a budget for the last few years and servicing may not have been carried out properly. When you get it check and service fully, pay attention to grease points and oil, chanage filters etc. as required and buy yourself a Rave manual.
Take some pics and post them so that we can envy you,

they can be of help if you need assistance.
My advice is to check before you commit yourself, look closely at the bodywork for accident damage, look for oil leaks, lift bonnet and look over engine bay for signs of water or oil spillage, remove oil cap check for mayonnaise, check coolant for oil, look at belt and hose condition, start engine and listen for alternator noise ( Bearings ), listen for strange noises, blows or hissing and mechanical noise.
Then play with all electrics and look for error codes, Then and only then take it out for a good long run, select gears manualy, listen for clunks and rattles, check cruise, try out the EAS, LPG, etc etc. etc.

Loads of checks, but this is justa few and more are mentioned on the website, don't fall in love with the car before you have made certain it's the one for you. I found two great cars but after advice from members did not buy because of problems in the future.

Remember to pay a reasonable price for a reasonable car and keep money to service and repair in the future.

If you find something you need help on post a new thread nd help will be at hand

Good luck

Fred
