my disco (the fun begins)

my disco has sprung a leak form what looks to be the swivel ball thingy majiggy....... iv looked on paddock and theres that many variations im confused. how will i know which kit to get for it to be right???? and also the leak from the transfer box seal is getting worse now so that will need doing.. any ideas on what that could be? the gearbox and transfer box is spot on cant fault it....... so is it as simple as takin them apart slightly and sliding in a new gasket and resealing it?? cheers
 
While it was in the workshop on sat i thought id take a look under the carpet... :eek:
wish i hadnt now! complete boot floor patchs in the two front foot wells... pics to follow. it looks like its had a floor put in but instead of welding it looks like its helo in with silicone sealant!

yep, standard procedure mate :D

just gotta set to it with the grinder, followed by welder.

i just done my sills, replaced outers and a few body mounts and other bits, nasty job, but well chuffed now :D
 
im surprised theres this many on the road if this is the norm...
would of thought majority of people would have gave up and scrpped them! but thankfully they seem to grow on you!! :)
did you take any pics mr noisy?
mine is off the road now so tonight the missus is in work until 10pm so i can go the workshop and begin the rip out... no power tools needed as the metal just rips away its that rotted!! :eek:
 
o boi!! thanks for the vote of confidence! my mate who i share the workshop with has done his already and his was roughly the same so not going into the unkown as such just a ballache...........
 
Body restoration is always a pain! If it helps, keep remembering that the majority of the strength in the car is in its chassis (hopefully yours is more/less okay?) and the bodywork is just there to keep it looking pretty, keep the water out, and the contents in.

I've just found severe corrosion in my inner sill, which stretches to the driver's footwell. Seriously thinking of lopping most of the bodywork off and making it into a trials vehicle.
 
erm the chassis has a small patch needing doing to it whic is about 4 inch's long by 1.5" so not the end of the world... iv just took the disco to the workshop to begin the work tomorrow and while i was there i came accross a couple of fridges in the corner waiting for the scrap man... so i though id be eco friendly and use the metal sheets off the fridges for the metal to do the small patchs on the foot wells! :D who said 4x4 drivers arent eco friendly!!
 
that's what I thought too, until I stabbed them with a screwdriver. Once again, extensive corrosion. Its like any other restoration, but with lots of big sheets of metal being welded to the car, rather than a few patches.
 
fell ill last weeek so only got to do the front discs and pads..... just "aquired" some 2mm steel sheets from work enough to do front inner archs and some of the patching of the footwells and hopefully make it stretch to repair parts of boot floor in order to weld in new boot floor......... fingers crossed! :D doubt ill get chance to do it this weekend got a bloody wedding to attend! how selfish of them!
