I'll strip an old injector & publish the innards. I'm certain there is a coil that is circular, black & responsible for actuating a central bar or shaft like a solinoid would & does.

Are you sure about that answer? Piezoelectric elements work with physical pressure, such as lighters for cigarettes.
I'm pretty sure these injectors use piezoelectric elements. A piezo will generate electricity if flexed, compressed or impacted, but will also expand with massive force when a suitable current is applied, which is why they're used in common rail injectors. The injector drive voltage is about 90 Volts, which is generally available to view on the live data from the ECM.
Piezoelectric elements are electrically similar to capacitors, so don't have a true resistance, but an capacitance instead.

I'll go through the service manual to check when I get a moment.

I've just checked the parts catalogue for the Bosch CRI 0445 110 030 injector. Interestingly it lists the actuator pack as the Magnet Assembly, which would point towards it being a coil based unit. As far as I was aware, all multi stage diesel injectors used piezo elements as they operate much faster than coil based injectors.

It's also odd that it uses 90 Volts to drive a coil, when coil based systems are normally driven at battery voltage.

FL 2 is defo piezo operated injectors. I think FL 1 is a coil system with an actuator in the injector head.
I know the FL2 uses piezo injectors, but was under the impression that the FL1 was also piezo, due to the high drive voltage. I'm happy to be wrong though. Every day is a school day.

An update. . The Garage has replaced all 4 injectors but the car is only reaching 2000 rpm. It sounds like limp mode to me.
There is something else that happened immediately before the car became faulty but don't know if it's relevent. The crankcase breather pipe disconnected itself near to the turbo. It didn't run properly for it's last journey before the current problem. Might there be a connection?

Yes. If the intake path isn't sealed, the MAF won't be measuring all the air going into the engine, so will be limiting fuel to prevent black smoke.

Hey, listen everyone, I'm not experienced with this Forum, and find it difficult to navigate, so please be gentle.
The Garage with my FL1 Td4 has replaced all 4 injectors & say it will not rev above 2000 rpm. I've since asked them, after 5 days for an update, but nothing to say.
It's a family business & getting anything from their Office is difficult - of not impossible! I'm thinking I'm using the wrong garage. Additional thinking? Scrap the FL1 & buy something else. A RAV4 maybe. Probably.

lol, the garage look like they are taking you for a ride rather than the car!

I'm sure they'd do the same with a Rav4.

Not sure how they think the injectors would make the speedo go manic.

If the EML light is on, you'd think the first stop would be to read the codes so that the engine will tell you what it think the problem is - for example a lift pump not supplying enough fuel to let it start the engine. But once again, that wouldn't do the other strange electrical stuff.

The F1 isn't an overly complex electrical beast, but it is ECU controlled. Think I'd be inclined to get an auto electrician to look over it. He can hopefully find the cause of the gremlins, which will probably enable the car to start - that's a much more plausible coincidence than injectors failing at the same time!

Thanks to everyone who has given answers & replies. I have to add I have to search for answers and replies when I log on .And it's a pain. Sorry but login off permanently. This Forum has been kind of helping but is also doff8cult to navigate. Bye

So a number of people have given you sound advice, but because you can't navigate a simple website, you're going to p**s off and not come back with info on what solved the problems that might help others in future.

Cheers.

You don't have to search - just go into the Freelander section or look at your Alerts. Its simple as really. If you're still really stuck, click on your tag name then Postings, or Find and "all threads by". So many ways to make life easy for you.

I think everyone here has been (and always is) ‘gentle’. It’s a very welcoming forum with a friendly bunch.

You could have just asked for some help with it!
