Also... are they still 9.00x16 tyres? They look a lot taller than our Petlas'.

Michelin XCL, they are 9.00 x 16 equivilent, there is some metric size 255/100R16 on the sidewall then below is smaller lettering giving 9.00 x 16.
Any aluminium parts not pained are not part of the original Landy, just ignore they are there I do. I won't be able to reproduce weathered IRR and painting them any other colour they will stick out like a sore thumb. I have no intention of repainting the 101".

They are very thirsty, not happy over 50MPH, Some people say there have a cooling problem, others say they are fine, but I find in the summer you have to watch how fast and how hard you drive, or the temperature goes up, I watch the oil temp as well and when that starts to rise, time to find a layby. The gear lever is not in a natural position. Visibility is excellent, turning circle is large and you need to pre plan some maneuvers. Having driven an Antar for years it still seems tiny, but others might find they need a bit of time to get used to its size. Much better with an Overdrive. Very harsh on the road despite parabolic springs, they are far nicer to drive than be a passenger in. At least you have a steering wheel to hang on to.
The controls and instruments and gauges were thrown at the dash and they positioned them where they landed.
Getting in and out is a practiced art you get better at as time goes on.

I watched one of the Fast and Furious films the other night ( 4 or 5 set in Brazil??) and at the start there is a chase between a train and some bods driving a 101 FC! I recognised the dash as being from an S2.
My missus looked at me and went ' WTF are you on about?' when I mentioned it.
Cr@p film as well.
Awesome thing though. What sort of gearbox is that in it?

It has been reworked then because the dash is unique to the 101"
Either that or the cab is so cramped and noisy filming was impossible so they cut in shots taken in a normal control series 2 and used them in the 101 sequence.
LT95 as used in the early Range Rover and the Stage 1.. (truth is it was designed for the 101, then chosen for the Range Rover. If the 101" has not been built I don't know how long it would have taken them to build the Range Rover or for that matter the V8 Stage 1.) Goverment money paid for the LT95 development for the 101", doubt whether Land Rover would have gone ahead with Stage 1 or Range Rover (at least a V8 engined one) if they had to find money for LT95 develpoment themselves.

Hi there. You say those tyres are XCL's... R they not XZL's? Who supplies them in the UK? We can get them new over here but there's no change out of $900 each!!! Thinking about trying to find 6 second hand ones and shipping them down under.... I'm also 'sitec' on the AULRO (Australian forum). There's a group of us avid 101 followers/owners who love the things! Have included a pic of my old beast which had a 6 litre 6 cyl Nissan Diesel in it. Wish I'd bought it over with me!!!
