Whos got one?
Which is a good make?
How much is a half decent one?
How the feck do you use it?

MAPLINS.

A tenner will get a nice one.
More will get fancier ones.

Learn a little about voltage resistance and amps!

i gots a durite mechanics multimeter that does ac and dc volts, amps, ohms, continuity (beeps), temp(with probe), dwell and tach for 2,3,4,6&8 cylinder engines i think there are a couple of other functions too but ontop of that it has auto powerdown and comes in a bright yellow(now a sort of browny black) rubberised cover

Six pounds from Maplins, the yellow ones, I bought half a dozen!

Gave three away for prezzies, and leave the others lying around handy.

As Slob says, it isn't the end of the world if you drive over one of these, but at six quid that won't happen. If it cost £200 you would drive over it first day!

Aye have a few kicking around.
Buy a second set of good leads too.

The difference between a good one and a cheep one is that if you do something stupid like trying to measure the resistance across a bat it will survive.
And yes i once spotted a YTS doing that with a £500 Avo, it survived.

I've still got my Avo 8 in the Garage - seems prehistoric now, but it was a superb piece of kit in it's day. Dunno if you can still get the batteries for em.

yup, cheep one's do the job, plus its always handy loads! cheep leads are a bit pants tho. i've got a few RS branded ones out skips from yer resoursful north sea oil industry, if its got a flat battery its just binned! they work alright but dont seam to like dampish sheds tho, displays go a bit off, best keep them warm and dry. :D

The Rolls Royce of meters, been looking for a good one for years now. Wish i acquired one before i left my last job.

i managed to aqquire 4 MK8s when UMIST were closing some of their labs recently, they are going in the safe along with me gold bars and other treasure
