Mudstuff Console Fitting

I've been reading through previous threads on this topic, but can't find the answer despite it being asked in threads.
Do you have to cut away any of your original dash to fit the mudstuff console, or, to fit switches or a radio in to it afterwards?
The nearest I have found is Leadfarmer saying he had fitted the console but hadn't cut anything as he had not fitted anything in to the bottom of the console at that time. Their website doesn't say, that I can find.
If anyone has any pictures of their current set up, that would be nice to see. :) Most threads that come up on a LZ search go back quite a few years.
 
Mine came with instructions?
If you hold it up to the dash you'll see where you need to cut.
If you don't cut the dash you are limiting how many accessories you can fit. I cut mine so the radio can fit in the bottom.

Cheers, gents. I thought that was the case, but was hoping it wasn't. Having just spent a lot of money and over two years of my life rebuilding it pretty close to original I'm not keen to cut a section of the dash out. I'm just thinking about keeping an eye on my investment by putting a few gauges in. I'm just thinking water temp, oil pressure and boost, so something a lot smaller would do. Judging by Flossies picture, you'd get nothing much more that the radio if you don't cut the dash? So there would be no benefit unless you do the chopping!?
Does anyone know of a smaller version or something similar, but just for a row of gauges?
 
You can get those 3 gauge pod things that people fit on disco dash boards - i dont know how well they would fit along the top of the defender dash, but they might look ok.

I know what you mean ref cutting the dash i have purchased one but im just not keen on cutting the dash

Can't see me doing it, greyhair. I think they look great, but cutting a section out of the dash front is not for me.

You can fit one without cutting the dash but you are limited on what you can fit in it then

It covers where the radio goes, so by the time you've put the radio back in, it looks like you'll be no further forward. Unless you cut the dash out.
Looking at Flossies picture I wonder if you could put the radio in the top section (where his gauges are) and then put a row of gauges where his carling switches are. Do the rear wiper and cigar lighter fit through and in to their original places without further cutting?

Thanks, Julianf. I'm not too worried about the price. I would be happy to pay the mudstuff or raptor prices, but I want something I like the look of, but don't want to cut the dash. Cheers for putting the pictures up, much appreciated.
 
Personally, i think the cheap from china one works best with the mud center (which is plastic) and the raptor with the raptor one.

If i get around to fitting a boost gauge in my disco, ill use the chinease one, but, in the defender, im probably going to fit a raptor dash (not center section) so, in that case, i reckon id go for the metal gauge holder.

That's just me though - you do what you like! : )

Yeah, I think both the mudstuff and raptor modules look good, but I'm not after fitting so much stuff. I'll have to keep looking to see if there is anything I like. The mudstuff one just might do if the set up I described above works. :)
 
If all you want is a few gauges, get one of the 3-gauge pods. With a bit of ingenuity you could devise a means of clamping it to the existing aperture for the ashtray, making it more or less reversible.
