Hi

This has probably been covered dozens of times before, but I'm struggling to find anything that I understand. I have a 2007 GS TD4 with the basic sound system fitted from the factory. I don't want to fit a non standard head unit, but noticed that the manual said that the basic head unit won't play MP3 CDs. I like the look of a factory unit in a car, and have seen plenty of higher spec head units for sale relatively cheaply. My question is "what do I need to buy, and do to ensure that I can fit one and get it to work?". I have an ex dealership tough book with IDS so programming won't be a problem. I hope that one of you guys can point me in the right direction. Thanks for reading.

It's not straightforward, but I'm sure someone with more information will be along in a bit.
Thank you for replying. I have found a head unit which has a six disc player built in and I think that it's very reasonably priced. But of course, I don't want to buy it unless I can use it.

A lot of the higher spec HUs use fibre optics to connect the various components like the amplifier, so if you don't have the fibre optic cable, then you'll need to add those to start with.

That would be a D2B network on a Jaguar. I'm not familiar with the Land Rover equivalent though.

Yeah in essence MOST is a later, more advanced version of the Jaguar D2B network.

It would be a lot of hard work and expense to retrofit a MOST network to the car.

It's called MOST on LR vehicles.
Just looking at the back of the head unit that I have been offered and can't see anything that resembles a MOST port.

Can’t really tell from that photo but I suspect it’s the black connector to the left of the grey one.

How many presets does it have?
