Out of interest, how long does it usualy take to pull the engine from a disco? I have 2 electric overhead gantry cranes and all the tool/cutting equipment I could wish for. I'm on a bit of a time crunch as I'm doing it after hours at work.

To speed things up I was thinking of cutting the slam panel out and removing the engine, gearbox and t box as one unit.

If your doing that its 6 bolts per engine mount, 6 bolts gearbox mounts and four bolts on the UJ. So if your an Animal you could have the Engine and Gears on a Pallet in 30 Min (1mm cutting Disk)

The engine mounts are completely different. Don't buy cheap ones, they are hard and will pass a lot of vibration through to the vehicle. Glencoyne engineering sell soft ones and their website is a great source of information. - edited, the 300tdi mounts are different from the 200tdi ones sold by Glencoyne, apologies.

What a disaster! Got it to the point where its ready to lift out and decided to call it a night and tidy up ready to pull it tomorrow night. Theres no room in the yard, so had to move it round to the front carpark using the forklift. Sounds simple but what a nightmare, ground is wet, forklift tyres are worn smooth, disco was a bit heavy for it and I was doing it on my own. Just as I'm about to push it into its parking place, it slipped and the fork bent the fuel tank up.

I could smell deisel and see a bit on the floor in the water, but couldn't see any abvious dripping from the tank, though it was wet around the edges of the skid plate thing. Decided it might be an idea to see how much was in the tank, when I pulled the pump out it was full to the brim ffs! Normaly you'd be greatfull of all that free fuel, but at 9.30pm and a possible leak on the company carpark...

I syphened out 2 1/2 5 gallon drums while retching and gagging as I swallowed what felt like another gallon, but could only find 2 drums, so had to transfer it into my defender - more spillage and mess on the carpark.

After that, I left the last 1/4 tank in there and put a drip tray under just in case, then spent anouther half hour washing and brushing the carpark. Fingers crossed it was just a bit splashing out the filler or one of the front fuel lines and that I don't get hauled into the office tomorrow..

If the engine and gearbox come out as one, the gearbox crossmember has to be removed or the box won't drop far enough . Got to be the best way as the top bellhousing bolts are a tw@ to get to on a Discovery.

So, dragging this thread back up again. I'm wanting to order new mounts and was looking for prices on the Paddocks site, but now I'm confused as to which ones I need because they list a couple of different types with a poor to **** description.

Can someone post up links for 300tdi Defender engine mounts, gearbox mounts and transfer box mounts (if it was any).

I'm assuming its the R380 thats in mine, what transfer box is it?

I'd like to get them ordered soon as poss
