Motorway cruising?

Hello. I have had my Disco 2 for nearly a year. But this weekend I do a round trip to Cornwall (600 miles +) I have not done a lot of motorway miles where speed is required. My tootle to work I do about 55-60mph.

So my Q is can the Disco comfortably cruise at higher speeds? Is this a lot worse on fuel? Am used to a six speed gearbox and so in fifth on the motorway the Disco is quite noisy compared to the Mondeo I had before. But am aware doing 50 to Cornwall could add a long time to the journey....

Any info appreciated. :)
 
My dads Disco 2 is quite happy at 60-65mph and would do 70-80 if wanted without too much trouble. Don't find it noisey at all... I suppose I am comparing it to my Defender though :p

He's got a EGR delete, de-cat and bigger intercooler so has abit extra grunt too which helps make it cruise at higher speeds easier.
 
Thanks for the reply. The EGR has been disabled. It's also just had a full service and fan/aux belt replaced. So fingers crossed she will be fine.
 
I have just done a 1900 mile trip to France I started off at 55/60 down to Dover but my wife was complaining everything was taking over us ! In France I upped it to 65 for the downward leg and on the return did 70 all the way it did use more fuel without a doubt !
 
Dont look at the speedo when driving look at the rev counter, 2200rpm is max torque, once you go over this your mpg// mph ratio takes a real hammering.
Dont matter if you have a remap or not, your gear ratio from crank to rear wheel is the same. Td5 really should have had a 6speed box, its got the grunt to pull it.
 
Hi drove my td5 to Austria a few years ago 1000 miles in a day no problem 80 mph all day 600 miles over a weekend should be easy
 
If bothered on fuel, check tyre pressures and unnecessary weight in the car. The TD5 will breeze 70 all day, every day- as long as it is maintained and has no faults.
Noise? All relative I suppose. You could find a hundred cars noisier than your Mondeo and you could find another hundred quieter!
Personally, I love the noise!

As above - once you're there she'll do 70-80 all day, but as for mpg...well you are shoving along a 2.25 tonne relatively unaerodynamic brick :). Headwinds and some gradients might cause a slight issue. I'll let you know when I've done longer motorway trips in mine (D2 TD5 XS).

Well 660 miles done at around the 60mph mark. Not to bad on fuel and cruising Is nice. Need to add cruise control. Would have made the journey even more relaxing. :)
 
Regularly do round trips up to Jockland to see the mither. 600 miles round trip. Keep the beast steady at 65mph and get about 31-32 mpg. Not much difference to driving my previous car, a zafira, Have had her up to 80mph but didn't like watching the fuel gauge go down. But then again I am Scottish! :D
 
I've been trying to work out the mpg and I think I got about 36-37 MPG so not to shabby. Didn't hit 65-70 often. Was more around 58-62 mph. Although I got better mpg from the Mondeo and got there a little quicker it was a less stressful drive as when your in the slow lane there is less to keep an eye on if you know what I mean. More of a relaxed tootle than a must over take next car etc etc. :)

Use to drive at 80+ in Zafira got there quicker. But now that I'm driving a 2 1/2 ton brick I enjoy driving at 65 knowing that the engine will happily sit there and it's sooo comfy too!!
 
It is a nice ride. Think I need a gearbox oil change though. A shock having to use the gears after being 5th for so long. Little cranky my gears. Hehe.

Had a full service done on mine couple of months ago. Changed oil in gear box (made a difference) engine, front and rear diffs + filters and brakes too. Pads and disc all round. Cost me £400 cos am not handy at those sort of things. But I think it was a bargain! lol
 
Aye am useless with mech stuff...but am lucky my brother is a mechanic. If not am sure I would have had to drive something more suitable. :-/
 
Went to the south of France a couple of years ago, gently on the way down and hell for leather on way back (was late for the ferry) used a bit more on way back, but not hugely. From memory it used 1/2 a tank more on way back. I put it down to going up hill all the way back to Blighty.
