Hello,

I can't believe it! My good old 21 year old 1986 2.5 N/A 90 has sailed through its MOT, and the only suggestion was that I tighten up two of my wheel bearings slightly, but there wasn't enough play in them to fail! The emissions were also well below what they needed to be :D

Aye, well I've kept on top of it so everything seems alright. My Dads 1.4 Citroen ZX, 1994 fails on something every year, so it's nice to think that mine, being another 8 years older and much more heavily abused is still in better condition!

Nice one! I got advised on my wheel bearings last year too, and my brake lines, and my tyres... And it failed on the solid brake hoses, and the number plate light.. and the bloody fuel cap not having an o-ring. It dnt leak though... Ah well. Glad it was ok with the emissions though, shows ur rebuild is up to scratch!



And how can you compare a LR to a Citreon... Honestly... :)

ah can't be arsed to look fer it, but what was the cause of yer smoke/steam yer had the other week?

A new head gasket without hylomar (go on giggle!!! :eek: ) and a little bit of oil removed seems to have stopped my oil burning problem. The gasket I took off was in a right oily mess.

Just out of interest, my emissions reading was 1.32 out of a limit of 2.50. How does that fair out amongst all you others with the same or fancier engines?
 
Reading through the MOT testers manual, if your emissions on the first run are below 1.5 it passes. If above, the average of 3 runs is taken which has to below 2.5 for n/a and 3.0 for turbo motors. A maximum of six runs can be taken in order for 3 consecutive runs to average below the threshold. It can also be failed even though it passes the smoke meter test if the examiner feels at any point in the rev range the smoke coming out of the back would impair the vision of other road users.

I think mine was near that, but i can't remember to be honest. Did he warn you about the risks of a smoke test, and ask you about your cambelt first? :) Cos if he didn't he should have.
 
huh, just looked through mi documents and I didn't get any stats from the MOT. Just the MOT (no advisories) It failed first time though. It would have been nice to know...Just glad it passed
