MOT myth Solved...

I was trawling through the post on here last night ...and there is a lot of them ..
but one stuck in my mind when I woke up this morning ..
I cant seem to find it now but one member stated that removing your cat on a derv will fail an MOT, and another member asked when the MOT myth will die and that removing your cat will not effect the MOT Result..
So I went to my Dads Garage this morning and printed this directly from the MOT computer..

im not trying to start and argument but hopefully in the future the right information will be passed around.

It's a pain. I've got a decat on my disco. Always sailed thru now they should fail it! Good job I kept my cat

It's been covered on these pages a few times - since Feb of this year a diesel car of any year should fail if it was originally fitted with either a catalyst or DPF which has been removed - there is no myth about it.

However, some MOT testers are relaxed over the new rules and the Ministry has provided no means of a tester identifying which cars had them as standard. So an early Disco (mid-90's) is a grey area. What most people are doing now is just knocking the guts out of them and leaving them in place. Unlike on Petrol cars there is no test to see if they are functioning (even though it's obvious if the Cat has been removed from the smell of the exhaust).

That VOSA ruling had been posted on here and has been avaliable free online since Feb, the subject has been kicked to death and no one seems to be having their's failed.

We failed our own ranger for not having a CAT can't risk loosing our licence.

My D1 300tdi passed a couple of weeks ago with a de-cat pipe fitted.
however due to a blowing flexy pipe it's now been replaced with the cat pipe I had just in case.

Here in good old N ireland its different as MOT is done at a government testing center not at an approved local garage, and as i say put my de-catted freelander through a couple of weeks ago and no problems at all
