I'd really recomend using a torque wrench to do this job and i'm the sort of person that normally does things super tight no matter torque settings

I've just been reading the instuctions u kindy added as i have problems with my RR and as i understand it the preload is determined by how much u tighten it up,

Over tightening will cause excessive wear to the shims (causing more problems down the line) and i assume it will put too much resistance in the steering too.

Try ebay for a cheap TW, better than nothing.

cheers buddy, it turns out that when I got the front 2 wheels up and had a look the problem was that the 52mm hub nut needed tightening up a little. so why the MOT man was advising me to do the pre load I have no idea:confused:

I have read up a bit more on the swivel pre load and i do think that has to be done exactly as it says. Gonna get me a good torque wrench when i have £$£:) just to keep handy
