Did you get a few different thicknesses? If so they may well come in handy straight away. eg if you take one of the old shims out and then bolt the pin back up, the wheel might be too stiff to turn. If you have a new shim that is thinner than the one you took out you could put that one in so that you get the right tightness in the pin. If that makes sense?

no, I think they are all the same thickness unfortunately

That's a shame. Anyway, when you take the pin out and remove the shim you might get the right tension. Or, the size shims you've got coming might be thinner than originals.
Don't know if you need it, but the start of this video might be useful

It’s a traditional thing. Misery is handed down through generations of Cumbrian farmers. They even have misery competitions at their local shows. Outsiders think they are showing livestock but the judges are actually gauging misery.

Haha, It's the Cumbrian misery show a week tomorrow! My daughter will have great fun deciding who the most miserable is! Thanks for that little bit of insider knowledge! Only moved up here 3 years ago I lived in your part of the world before that.
