OK just got her back from the mot and she failed (no surprise with my luck) so here is the list help getting her through would be good

1 headlamp aim beam image kick up to the offside nearside (will get garage to do before retest)
2 service brake is causing the vehicle to swerve to the nearside nearside front brake sticking (one of the guide pins is rusted in place so on the look out for a replacement)
3 antilock braking system warning lamp indicates and fault (does go out when driven - not spoken to tester yet)
4 & 5 exhaust emissions carbon monoxide content at idle and after 2nd fast idle excessive
6 lambda reading outside specified limits

So apart from easy stuff such as light and brakes where do I start with emissions. Is it just buy a new lambda and hope?

4.0 petrol gems 1997 it does have lpg fitted but it's never worked since I got it there is an electrical fault somewhere in that nothing lights up to say it's getting power.

Get the LPG working. If you drive in on LPG then they have to test it on LPG and it will probably breeze through.

Oil and filters done? If so a good long run might just be enough to blow out the coke and get through the emissions. The fact he didn't know the ABS light goes out over 5mph is a bit of a worry!

Oil and filters 8 months ago less than 500 miles.

No mot or tax so long run a bit of a prob.

Lpg I've been playing with for a while just not high on the to do list want to get her back on the road first.

Abs my neighbour is a mechanic he took it for the test at his friendly mot station so not so sure about them but will say to him before take 2

#3 is normal - it doesn't indicate a fault if it goes off when you drive above 5mph. I had them fail mine on that last year, until I told them that it's supposed to do that as a self check on the wheel speed sensors. If the light doesn't go off or you get an ABS Fault or Traction Failure when you're driving then there is fault - but from what you've described, that isn't a fault condition - but normal operation.
Emissions... could be that if it hasn't done a lot of mileage, then it needs a good run to get it nice and hot. Other things to check are the IACV stepper motor as the GEMS ones can gum up, and will cause problems at idle. Checking fault codes can't hurt either as it might show that one of the O2 sensors isn't working properly and that could be throwing it out aswell.

New brake carrier ordered here next week so that should take care of point 2.
Drove her up on some ramps and I've had a quick look at the lambdas nothing obvious soaked in wd40 will take off and have a look at the exhaust side tomorrow.

£20 on eBay for a new carrier Inc pins delivered so not worth the work trying to replace as it wouldn't move unlike the others I could free off and grease.

Wife dragged me out shopping on the joys so haven't looked at lambdas but there is 4 wires which one should I be taking a voltage off? Reading at idle if it fluctuates its working if fixed it's dead.

Finally managed to get some time on tiny pulled the lambdas out

gave them a quick clean. Nothing obvious I can see wrong but can't find my mulitmeter anywhere so checking the voltages is out of the question for now.
Spoke to mechanic he recommends using a cat cleaner and a good run before retest. Any recommendations on cat cleaners?

Use hot water in the bath and some Fairy liquid. But wear gloves, they tend to spit and scratch when you stick them in the hot water. :D:D

It is always difficult to tell with additives but I think I've had a good experience with CataClean which was available at Halfords last year. Seriously expensive and for the dosage for my Mercedes I needed two bottles. If I remember correctly two bottles of the stuff was about the same price as a tank of fuel!

Might be cheaper to find a Terraclean outfit?Think that's what they had on Wheeler Dealers.

At £16 I'll give it a go what's the worse that can happen it won't work.

16 quid for one bottle though isn't it? Check the dosage or it won't work as well (supposedly). I think I paid more like 25 quid a bottle, may be more, but that's South East England for you...
