Morocco Easter 2018

Putting feelers out to see who might be interested in doing a trip to Morocco.
We did one two years ago which was great fun. Chris one of the group members did a blog which might give you a feel of what might be in store. http://land-rover-discovery-1.blogspot.fr/2014/04/day-2-morocco-trip.html
Three of the previous group have expressed an interest so far. The group last time consisted of five vehicles which worked out well. This time round I would like to cover the Atlantic coast but nothing is set yet.
Anyone interested get your names down with level of interest and start working on your Land Rovers.

Possibly, yes. Id have one maybe two Defenders that may want to join as well.

For bonus I do know a "facilitator" that knows folk in the area who could be a benifit.

Though it does depend on many things, my life is pretty up in the air right now!

Hope things sort themselves out for you. Keep following this thread to keep yourself updated with developments. I'm sure we will have a few people join and have to drop out due to various commitments. Got you down as a maybe. Mind you I think we will all be maybe's driving Land rovers, who knows if they will be up for it on the day.

Just read your 2015 post and then this thread pops up,don't know if I'll be ready just waiting for Portuguese authorities to finalize matriculation of my 101 so can't add any non-standard stuff till it's done they're bloody strict at inspections here and it's going through as a commercial even tougher! But will follow and see what happens.Off to Tangier next month for a couple of nights leaving the diesel van in Spain Tarifa's about 4hr drive from here however may be able to join you next year will keep checking in .

Yep sons flying in from Peru where he's just done the Inca trail after climbing in America he's only here for 2wks before heading back NZ so times short and Lott's of work to do so only 2 nights in Tangier this time.was going to buy a motor sailer and sail round med but came across this 101 last year down here on export certificate been lying 10 odd years under a tree belonging to a customer who became a friend he suddenly decided to sell it to me for a very good price knowing I'd do it properly (his son in law and other mates were non to happy)always dreamed of having one for trecking never thought I would it's a cracker galvanised chassis \stainless fuel tank and knokken winch going to give it the works when paperwork done so Easter if I'm ready count me in I'm s\employed so time off no problem not sure if Lucy will come but we'll see (she's used to roughing it 5yrs no lekky\running water as we built our house) it's being blond that bothers her.will keep checking in Mike.

One thing I'd like to add is, the other day I was looking into going to Rates Billing in Portugal and found there is a ferry that goes from Southampton to Santander in Spain for a similar cost in fuel! Takes about 35 hours or so but means not having to sort out hotels/camping on the way through France plus 10+hours less driving.

Just a thought!

Just a thought!

The only thing with these crossings compared to say Dover\etc is if you miss it for any reason it's not possible to sail on the next one without a long wait,and you can spend a lot on board in 35hrs!

Very true! On the way there it would make sense, shouldnt be that hard to catch it, the way back maybe not. Yeah they only run every 2 - 3 days!

Fair point on the cash but I expect you'd end up spending a similar amount on the road + the cost of hotel/camp site on top!

When I used to come down from Edinburgh there was plenty time for something to go wrong it was a long way to Southampton lol

I know this is a bit of a "How long is a piece of string" type question but if I were to go on a trip like this what sort of money should I be budgeting for including things like fuel, ferries, insurance, camping, food etc?

Hi,

From memory you will need to do about 1,300 miles from the uk and back, 2,600 miles at the cost of fuel.

Then depending on the cost of the fuel in Morocco again its just a miles/cost calculation.

I think out ferry was about 200euro's
Insurance was about 90euro's

Then you can either wild camp for free, or spend a little time in a hotel or campsite. This is not expensive, but the beer and wine is.

I think we spend under £2k by quite a bit. We ate out a bit and also stayed in hotels a little.

Hi Chris, regarding dates I'm open. Nothing set in concrete yet but thought would include the Easter period similar to last time.

Oh, I have been in touch with Ken, he will work out a route to cover the Plage Blanch and some off roading stuff a bit further inland.

Last time without the UK crossing bit we spent about £1700 between the two of us. That included some wild camping and stopping in some camp sites and hotels. I live in France but it was around a 19 hour drive to southern Spain where we all met up.

We bought all our food in France where I live including loads of beers and wine. We over killed last time with the food and came back with some. The beers and wine didn't make it back. Eating out, camp sites and hotels in Morocco is not expensive. We stopped in hotels really just to have a hot shower and use the pool .

Hi Chris. I'm working on something along the lines of meeting up in Spain on Sunday 25th March 2018. Catching the ferry Monday 26th March and heading down to Tan Tan, then down along the Plage Blanche. Then going inland for the return. Ken said he would help us with a route nearer the time. Good Friday is the 30th March, Easter Sunday is the 1st April 2018. Then heading back to catch the return ferry on Friday 6th April. so folk have the weekend to get back.
