To follow up from my previous thread.

I’ve managed to figure a few things out on my 99 4.6 EAS issue.

- The compressor is working. Just couldn’t hear it over the exhaust. Have the cover off the EAS box under the bonnet and can confirm the compressor is working as normal.

- I can trigger the compressor by removing the RL20 relay and jumping the connectors also. But it kicks in fine as normal when you start the engine.

- Have used a multi meter to check the thermal switch which seems fine.

- I’ve bought some valves and manually inflated each air bag by removing the lines from the valve block. They all inflate and aren’t the problem.

This leads me to think the problem is not the air springs or pump. But I’m unsure how or what to check next.

I wonder if the diaphragm valve isn’t working correctly. Or if there is an air leak on the tank or the dryer.

I’m getting no fault codes at all. But when all connected the car just sits on the bump stops and doesn’t move even a mm.

Meaning that while the compressor is pumping air in. It isn’t reaching any of the air bags.

What should I check next?

Diaphragm split in the valve block?

dont let the compressor run too long whilst you have a suspected leak you will burn it out pretty quick ;)
Ta.

I’ve pulled the relay under the passenger seat. Which I believe should have disabled the EAS ECU. So the compressor currently doesn’t kick in. Have used a compact 12v compressor I use for tyres to manually inflate the springs.

So at least I can move it now.

You say the compressor runs - have you actually checked it generates pressure?
No I haven’t. What would be a good way to test this?

I was thinking of fitting a valve to the line to the air tank to check that the tank holds pressure (it looks really corroded under the Vehcile).

And I guess I could do similar and use my tyre compressor in place of the vehicle one on the valve block.

Take the blue pipe off and stick your thumb over the output of the compressor while it is running, you should not be able to stem the air flow.

Don't worry, it is not high flow so it won't blow your thumb off, but it is high pressure so you shouldn't be able to plug the output!

Do have a link please? Have found one. Which I used to check the thermal switch. But it didn’t specially answer my questions. Thanks.
All you need to know on how to check out the EAS is in wammers guide in the technical archive top left of range rover section, if I knew how to do the pointy arrows thing I would but its up there top left.

Same colour as mine. But mine has proper wheels on it, no side steps and most importantly a diesel engine. So it's betterer. ;):D:D:D
:D

I have more wheels. And steps have been on it since before I owned it.

A manual diesel does sometimes seem appealing for the mpg. But the 4.6 is a lot quicker.
