OK...I know this has been discussed before, but I just bought a 1992 Discovery and the previous owner had dumped about 5 pounds of black silicon around the sunroof seal (must have been too lazy to do a bit of research to figure out WHY it was leaking ). Long story short - it leaks anyway! So yesterday I pulled off all the old silicon and cleaned it up nicely, but there was a thin gasket that looks like it ran between the main, thick gasket and the metal on the roof. It also appears that the glass actually rested on that thinner gasket? The unfortunate part is that the thinner gasket is pretty badly chewed up on the bottom, so I may have to resort to filling in the space with silicon and re-inserting the thin gasket. The problem with that is that I really don't know exactly HOW it is supposed to fit in there. Surprisingly enough, it didn't leak lastnight even with slight rainfall, but I can definitely hear that it isn't sealed as tightly as it should be because the wind whistles through it when I'm on the motorway.
Does anybody have an exploded view or a photograph of how the two gaskets are supposed to fit together originally??
If anybody can help, please email me at [email protected] as soon as possible (looks like rain again today and tomorrow in Sicily! ).
Thanks in advance!
