Mog's collection of interesting Defender's currently on Autotrader

From time to time I check autotrader to see what's currently available with regards to Landy's, I occasionally I come across interesting ones, today I came across three! So i'm going to share them with you

First we have a Camel Trophy support Defender from the Tierra Del Fuego '98 Camel Trophy event - vehicle has undergone a full refurb. If I had 30k spare cash, I might be tempted

Especially as Nene Overland is the one supplying it!

It is also worth mentioning they have a 1983 Defender from the Brazil Camel Trophy of 1984, owned by the Italian team, currently undergoing a full refurb by Nene again:

Next up, we have the 2013 Defender 110 which was the integral part of the Pole of Cold expedition which was in conjunction with Land Rover and the Royal Geographic Society, Landy is kitted out for Arctic expeditions including full insulation and extra heating

Not necessarily a bad thing, I would have a whole fleet of Series and Defender's if I could afford it

Pre production 110 looks like an interesting one. Cant say the Camel stuff would grab me, I like light and minimalist, not carrying tons of hardware, very rare I go far from home in the Ninety.
I look at landy ads all the time, local paper, auto trader, specialist magazines. You never know when something you really fancy will come up. Myself I would like a canvas top series 2 88, petrol engine.

1 Defender, 1 '64 Series 2a 2 1/4 petrol and now Ben a 1965 2a 3.5 v8

I only wish I'd taken a picture of the hedge after it was dragged out of it, it looked like a big green garage, plenty of potential in it though

Not yet, I thought I was off work tomorrow and could make a start on it but alas I'm working so it'll have to wait until next week, it does need work underneath as there's a couple of areas of rot but then so did my Defender and this was much plenty cheapness......

Metal on old sixties chassis tends to be much better than s3 and Def chassis. Rusts slower, steel was better in those days, I think.
Post some pics whn you get time, would be interested to ave a look at that. Outriggers and bottom of door pillars used to be problem areas on them IIRC.

The bulkhead needs swapping but it's all do-able as I've got a decent spare in the garage that I sold on ebay a couple of months ago and the bloke has never come to collect so I should be able to make 1 good one from the 2 I've got plus some new footwells. I'd bought the '64 a couple of weeks earlier and saw this and thought if it's a complete shed I can rob some parts off it that the '64 is missing but it's just to good especially when I saw it sat I a hedge. The exmoor trim roof it had had rotted away and the seats are covered in foliage but there's something about it.

Restore it! Not making any more 2as, and good ones are now rising rapidly in value!

That's the plan especially when I could by it 85 times over for the price of Mogs camel trophy

and it will only go up in price

Not bad for £300-350!!

The amount of old series landy's and early Defenders stuck in barns and on farmyards around here is ridiculous. I have my eye on two in particular at the minute, one is a Series 2a HT, and the other a Series 2 LWB Safari HT. I am quietly confident that the farmers would be happy to get <£500 for them, both look to be in near roadworthy condition.

I'll try and grab pics when I drive by them next.

Put a skirt on and go and knock the door. It worked for me.....
£350 and it came with a pair of spare wings, spare gearbox and the original chrome spoked steering wheel

Good result if they are in reasonable condition. Most that I see that have been kept outside have some rust issues. Not many good barn finds down here now, a few that are pretty hanging are still for sale, but many have woken up to increasing classic interest.
