yes i agree its an awkward one ive not that much damage she,ll live broken snorkel top and wind deflector and quite a few tree lines to t cut out lol .and i think the person stuck should have an idea of the type of recovery it needs because like in the pictures brian took it looked nice and fine but when i got there it was a very diff story very
Is It a good idea to rely on someone who has already got stuck to define what's required? The OP on your rescue said just a tug in low range IIRC.

Glad you haven't got much damage.

I don't agree that looked nice. One look at the pic he posted, I thought that looked like a place I wouldn't go in a vehicle except life and death.
Especially on a winters evening with the light failing,

i think much more assessment is needed before asking people to volunteer, once someones committed themselves its natural to at least try and that can present unforeseen risks, most of the rescues are no doubt simple enough, but thats 2 recently ive seen i think people shouldnt have been asked to volunteer for

First to arrive should always recce and assess on foot if in the slightest doubt.

So how do you get the info then ?

Rely on the person who got stuck? we saw how that panned out

condition of the track or any other way out. By the time I realised that the track was unsuitable, there was no other way to go but forwards.

Great effort Brian and I applaud you for attempting to help out in what turned out to be on extreme terrain.

In light of what this thread is attempting to do.

What would you say you should have done differently if anything on this occasion? as a leesons to be learned if any and advice for others?

Cheers

im not knocking the op but well what the hell was you doing up there like that and the guy doesnt have any car insurance i just checked so we risked alot s677bgt on ask mid not insured so thats the last post on this as im quite annoyed that brian was put in that position

This raises a point well made by @allan downes , perhaps a precheck of the reg could show the vehicle is at least legally on the "road". Before anyone ventures out to look at it.

Cheers

Me too! :( Why I never take too many risks. Especially if it is only a vehicle. Quite different if there are people trapped in it, or stranded outdoors overnight.
we did get a lot stuck on the beach, and usual scenario was several vehicles as those coming to aid also got stuck

Fine if it is flat, and you have good ropes. My issue with the scenario in Wales would be that the narrowness of the track left very little margin for error. Any sideslip, or just poor steering, and that was only going one way. Down.

both have their risks the local beach is more like morcambe bay, its not just straight sand
