Just doing a refurb of the front hubs on my recently purchased 300 TDi, bit of a can of worms. The PO seemed to just get a basic service done and get a mobile mechanic to fix anything that came up from a pre MOT check.
The plan was to just do the swivel pins and gaskets but after strip down and inspection decided I needed to do CVs, 1/2 shafts and swivel balls (all original!), and may as well replace the wheel bearings, swivel pins, all bolts and brake hose brackets. Mostly Britpart except for the bearings, which is what that makes it affordable, and even if it just lasts 30% of the length of time the orginal parts have, I'll be very happy.
Getting that rear top swivel pin bolt out was a real PITA!
Planning to cut a slot in the new brackets so that in future it is easy to just loosen the brake hose lock nut, slide the hose out and move the caliper out the way.......
So my question is, has anybody else done this?
Any reasons why I shouldn't?
And is it best to cut the slot at the top as per the later backet (which is my plan), or maybe to the side?
