Away with the fairies
Hi all, I have just aquired this 1978 109 to be a body off project, so far I have been told its a , Station wagon, an estate, and a safari, are they three different names for the same model, If there is a difference what is it , Regards J.

All the same thing, although I don't think Land Rover ever used the term estate car.
 
I always thought that (for a LWB) a "Station Wagon" had 5 doors, 2 rows of forward facing seats, inward facing seats in the back and rear side windows.
A "Safari" had 3 doors, 1 row of forward facing seats in the front, full length inward facing bench seats in the back and rear side windows.

To add to the confusion, either could be fitted with an optional "Safari" roof, which was double skinned for better insulation in hot climates.
 
I'm pretty sure Safaris have always had 5 doors. Perhaps that should be 4 door, counting the back door only came out with hatchbacks.
On thinking about it, did the term "Safari" ever apply to 88s?
