misted front headlights

Ok Mr Stupid on the line here. These vents, are they supposed to vent the increased pressure caused when the lights warm up the air contained within the headlight space when the lights are on? And do they have some sort of primitive one-way valve or summat to stop moisture-laden air getting back in and condensing on the lens when the whole shebang cools? If so, I understand, if not then wot is going on with all this???!!!! lol.

Pressed mine and the inside part gives and also makes a soft clicking sound - don't want to cut open and examine, but seems like they are a soft rubber membrane inside a harder plastic shell. I assume they are supposed to act like a one-way valve, allowing warm pressurised air out but not letting air in? No idea what the improved design ones look like - would be good to see a cross-sectional drawing or an official explanation of how they work? Put mine back on for now for what it's worth...

You could try sticking one between your lips and blowing and sucking, That would show if there is a one-way valve in there. But you may not want to through fear of crud-ingestion!

Article was good, so yes, fogging/misting is something you sometimes have to deal with. Okay, design of headlights can minimise fogging (number and size of ventilation points), or you can keep lights on more often (and use globes that generate more heat?). Of course, be careful with pressure washing to minimise water getting in there in the first place.

Anyway, hair dryer worked and put back the three vents (one-way valves). Just interested in what the improvement was with the new LR vents?

Had a run on a narrow, and very dark, country road recently - the H7 "Osram Night Breaker Laser" globes were great - noticeable difference in penetration - didn't need high beam (would have in the past). Not getting any younger - eyes need all the help they can get on unlit roads!

I see these globes have now been superceded by an improved offering? Laser sounds a bit over the top though - might be able to use them at the bank to burn a hole through the safe!

Anyone have any thoughts on these globes?

Still no condensation/misting, so all good!
