I don't post much here, but I have a good feeling I'll start. I'm in the middle of a 3.9efi install in my previous 3.5 110. The easy part is done (engine bolted in). I've run into a couple of areas where I could use your help. I thought that since this was a common swap, I had it all figured out:eek: The engine is from a Land Rover _______??? I bought it from a guy that was going to use it in a kit car. The engine number is 36D0000 so that should mean 88 or newer.

First, the belt. Any idea what is missing in this config? I was thinking it was a tensionner, but not 100%

And after bolting her up, I noticed there was an oil cooler or oil pressure switch in the oil filter housing? Does this mean I need to get a new rad and lines?

Also, this is what it will eventually be powering. Any ideas on moving the snorkel to the other side? lol

Thanks!

Thanks Rudd, it is forward a little bit. I have to give credit to the guy that owned it before me for all the work. All the tubing (pushbar, rocksliders) are custom made. Ufortunately the engine couldn't hang. Well...maybe that was a good thing:)

the bit ya circled would be for the aircon tensioner if you had aircon fitted, aircon compressor would bolt to the 4 holes immediately above it.

Thanks for the quick answer. I've gone through 2 belts already, but none seem to fit. May have to measure it with a piece of string and go to Halfords:doh:

Lany10..thanks. I'll order one of those. You're the man.

Does anyone know about the engine oil cooler? I'm guessing some Landy's that came with the 3.9 had an engine oil cooler in the radiator. Just curious if anyone know which one would fit my 110....or if I even need one.

Hi All,

You don't need an oil cooler, it was only intended for hot climate vehicles (Gulf states). The only problem is there is an oil pressure relief valve in the circuit for the oil cooler in case it get blocked. Apparently you can remove this and just block off the pipes so you can use your original radiator.

I'm in the middle of doing exactly the same conversion on my 110 so if you need any more info let me know.

How are you getting on with the wiring?

Good luck,

Tim

Sounds good Tim...anything that saves me a little cash helps. Any recommendations on what to plug the hole with? (don't repeat that statement in the pub). I'm coming along very slowly on this conversion, but I need to get this thing running again soon. My other half is complaining about taking me to work every morning:eek:. So far I've done the following (sorry for any American terms):

-Replaced in-tank fuel pump w/efi pump
-Replaced petrol lines, installed filter
-Bolted engine in place
-Yanked out LPG system (anyone want one?)
-Replaced cap/rotor/wires
-Refitted headman headers

I still need to:

-Install the efi wiring (mount ECU<---mine is very short after the grommet so it will be interesting). I'm not too confident on this part. I ordered a seperate painless fuseblock to run the ecu and all additional auxillaries. If anyone is near Peterborough and could use some money, beer, or beer money PM me!

-Find a air filter, or aif filter housing

-Order the belt tensioner I amazingly couldn't figure out

-Install new speedo cable and speed transducer

-Figure out what to do with the throttle cable (any ideas on which one to use?)

I am sure I forgot something, but ultimately I'd like to get it running and do some greenlaning or overland trips.

Not sure, as yet, whats needed to blank off the tapping for the cooler pipes. If you have the pipes then you could always take them to your local hydraulic specialist (someone like Pirtek for example) and see if they do a blanking plug with the right thread.

If you have any luck let me know!:)

On the subject of filter housings i'm using one from a RRC that I bought of Ebay for less than £20. Its the drum type and designed for a 3.9 so ideal for the job (I also spoke to one of the guys I work with who designs intake systems and he said it would perform better than a panel filter). Not sure how you would hook it up to your snorkel though.

Any progress on this?

I've managed to get my engine in and hooked up to the gearbox (after modifiying the spigot bearing with a grinder) and half of the Rimmer Bros. manifolds are on (looks like I need to modify the drivers side engine mount to clear the pipes) but thats about it at the moment. As an aside I hope you're not running oxygen sensors as it looks like the passenger side sensor hits the clutch slave cylinder pipe.

Fango, you say you've replaced the fuel lines and filter. What sort of material are you using for the fuel lines and where did you locate the filter. Hopefully i'll be dropping the tank and changing the pump this weekend so any info would be useful.

On the cooling system I've given up trying to get the info on how to bypass the oil cooler circuit and gone back to using a Disco radiator. Its the same width and height and the mounts are the same as a 110 rad (but the fan brackets need removing to clear the PAS pipes) its just a bit deeper. I hope my fan fits....

Any luck with the vehicle speed pick-up?

Tim
