Missing key for used Land Rover

Hello!

Needing a little bit of sage advice if anyone can help please?

I am a looking to upgrade my shabby old Land Rover (thanks again to those here who took the time to answer some of my noobie questions in the past!) and am in the process of buying a used Discovery Sport. After putting down a deposit I have been told by the dealer that it only comes with one key. In hindsight this now seems a bit odd as every other car I've bought in the past has come with 2 keys?

I have been pondering this over on the way home and even though I have been told I could arrange for a locksmith to make a second key for around £250 I am worried that there's a real risk of the car being stolen with another key for it floating around somewhere?

I admittedly am not very knowledgeable when it comes to cars and so wondered if any of the kind and wise folk on this forum might have a moment to share insight and advice. It would very much be appreciated. Is there anyway to disable the missing key or for some other measure to make the car I am buying more secure?

Personally I'd never buy a car with just 1 key.

The DS has only been available for a few years, so there's no excuse for it to only have 1 key.
It could be the previous owner still has the key, and plans to use it to get the car back at some point in the future.

Get the seller to take it to LR and get another key ordered, and have the missing key removed from the vehicle's systems, to prevent the vehicle from going missing.

Hi Nodge - thanks for the quick reply. Yes, I am going to have to discuss this with the seller.

If it helps others, I have been quoted £570 to get a new key from Land Rover and the missing one removed from the car's system.

Why are you getting quotes, it's the dealers problem.

Yeah I know what you mean but I have paid the dealer a £500 deposit now and so wanted to get an idea of what it might cost me as they don't appear to want to fix the problem.

Go and get your deposit back. Then look for another.

Did the seller tell you there was only 1 key before you paid the deposit?
If not than he withheld vital information to get the sale, making the deal void.
Get your money back, and find another, there's plenty about.

Op says "after putting down deposit" so sounds like he wasn't aware.
Tell them to sort it or you want your money back.
